Vale Paul Gregory – Australia’s security industry lost one of its finest recently, after Paul Gregory fought a battle with Glioblastoma.
Gregory had been working with DAS and was about to join the Video Security Products team but after his diagnosis in 2024 elected to devote himself entirely to his family – with some of the fishing he loved thrown in on the side.
Paul Gregory had more than 20 years’ experience in the Australian electronic security and video surveillance sector, with a career spanning distribution, manufacturing, and specialist integration channels across NSW and the ACT.
He began his security industry career in 2003 as NSW sales manager at Security Merchants, where he was involved in the supply of security products to installers and integrators. In 2006 he moved to Pacific Communications, spending almost 8 years as NSW business development manager, building deep exposure to CCTV, access control, and communications solutions, and developing long-term relationships across the NSW integrator market.
In 2014 Gregory briefly held a business development manager role at Open Platform Systems before joining Hills Limited, where he spent more than 8 years in senior business development roles. At Hills, he worked first as product sales specialist for CCTV, then as BDM industry development for NSW.

This period coincided with significant shifts in the video surveillance market, including the growth of IP video, VMS platforms, analytics, and large-scale commercial and government deployments. Gregory’s role focused on channel development, vendor engagement, and supporting integrators deploying CCTV and video solutions into complex environments.
From May 2022 to April 2023, Gregory was business development manager for NSW and ACT at Dicker Data, working within the distribution environment supporting enterprise and commercial technology partners, including video surveillance and adjacent infrastructure.
VSP’s managing director Zaki Wazir said he and the VSP team were deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing of their colleague and friend.
“I first met Paul in the early 2000s when he and I worked together at Security Merchants in Northmead,” Wazir said. “Even back then, Paul stood out as hardworking, talented, and above all, a devoted family man.
“When we both left Security Merchants, our paths diverged – Paul went to Pacom and I eventually found my way to VSP, which was known as Kobi Security at the time. For many years we competed fiercely, but always respectfully.”
According to Wazir, during his time at Pacom, Gregory continued to demonstrate the same work ethic and leadership he was known for, becoming a mentor to many in the industry.
“I caught up for lunch with Paul in April 2024 not long after Dicker Data acquired the Hills business and Paul had moved across,” Wazir said. “Over that lunch, with just a handshake, we agreed that Paul would join VSP — and I was genuinely excited at the thought of working alongside him again.”
“Sadly, it wasn’t meant to be. Only a few short weeks later, Paul was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. He passed away a couple of weeks ago, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly.“
“Paul’s warmth, integrity, and generosity of spirit left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed – vale Paul Gregory,” Wazir said.
