Verkada GW31-E Outdoor Wi-Fi Gateway Extends Wireless Security Deployments Without Fixed Network Cabling.
Verkada GW31-E Outdoor Wi-Fi Gateway – Verkada has released the GW31-E Outdoor Wi-Fi Gateway which extend Verkada deployments to locations where fixed network cabling is impractical or costly.
The unit includes an integrated PoE switch delivering 2 PoE++ outputs with a total 60W power budget, allowing 2 downstream devices to be powered directly without an external PoE switch. This supports Verkada cameras, sensors, and PoE++ devices such as multisensor and PTZ units from a single installation point.

The gateway allows security devices to be installed anywhere power and Wi-Fi are available, supporting perimeter and outdoor deployments such as parking lots, fence lines, external buildings, and remote site infrastructure. By avoiding trenching and eliminating recurring cellular data costs, the GW31-E provides a low-cost pathway to cloud-managed video and device connectivity at the edge.
The GW31-E is housed in an IP66-rated enclosure designed for direct outdoor installation without a NEMA cabinet. It mounts to poles or walls and accepts multiple power sources including AC outlets, streetlight taps, DC terminal block inputs, solar systems, battery systems, and 802.3bt Type 4 PoE.
Connectivity is delivered through dual-band Wi-Fi 6 supporting 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz operation with 2×2 MIMO and DL MU-MIMO. The gateway operates as a Wi-Fi client, linking remote devices back to upstream access points. External N-type antennas are supplied as standard, with an optional directional antenna available to extend range where access points are distant. There are 3 Gigabit Ethernet ports provided, with 2 LAN ports and a configurable WAN/LAN ports.
The GW31-E is managed through Verkada’s Command cloud platform. From Command, administrators can configure the gateway, monitor network performance, view traffic metrics, manage connected devices, and receive alerts if connectivity is lost. Remote diagnostics include packet capture and speed testing.

Administrators can remotely power-cycle downstream devices via the integrated PoE outputs. If the gateway loses connectivity, it performs an automatic self-power-cycle after 30 minutes to restore operation without site attendance. Local management is also available through a built-in server page accessed over Ethernet, and Bluetooth provisioning through the Command mobile app.
The unit operates across a wide environmental range from −40C to 50C, with 5 to 90 per cent non-condensing humidity tolerance. It carries FCC, IC, UKCA, RCM and MIC RF compliance and UL/IEC 62368-1 safety certification. Physical construction is rated for outdoor exposure and vandal resistance is supported through robust housing and secure mounting hardware. A status LED and 4 signal-strength LEDs provide local operational visibility. Dimensions are 243mm by 148mm by 33mm and weight is 1.4kg and warranty is 10 years.
Power accessories are offered separately, including outdoor and indoor PoE++ injectors, AC/DC adapters, and a streetlight power tap that connects directly to mains lighting circuits to deliver DC via PoE. These options support deployment in street furniture, car parks, campuses, and infrastructure corridors without dedicated electrical works.
