Watters Electrical Solves Break-In Problem With Gallagher Monitored Pulse Fence And Access Control Solution.
Watters Electrical Solves Break-In Problem With Gallagher – Watters Electrical has chosen Gallagher Security to protect its Shepparton facility after the site was subjected to repeated break-ins, vandalism and theft.
Founded in 1957, Watters Electrical is an electrical contractor in regional Victoria and southern New South Wales with offices in Albury, Shepparton, and Wangaratta. The company employs 250 local staff and is one of the largest employers of apprentices in the region.
Already a Gallagher channel partner, when Watters’ Shepparton site was hit with overnight break-ins, vandalism and theft, the company installed additional lighting and surveillance cameras, but the break-ins continued. Staff vehicles were being targeted, tools stolen, and gates were left unlocked due to miscommunication, highlighting the need to install a more proactive physical security solution. At this point Watters turned to Gallagher Security.
According to Cameron Shields, communications and security specialist at Watters Shepparton, the team had a good idea of which Gallagher products they wanted to use thanks to its knowledge of the brand – beginning with a Gallagher Monitored Pulse Fence.
Watters needed a security system that would not just detect intrusion while it was happening but would actively discourage it.
“The Gallagher Monitored Pulse Fence creates a physical barrier deterring anyone from cutting our fence, and if they do, they would be deterred with a safe, short pulse and we will be alerted,” Shields said.
“The solution is also smart enough to tell the difference between a real threat and something like a possum or strong wind, which means we’re not wasting time on false alarms.”
As a Gallagher Security Certified Channel Partner, Watters Shepparton took on the installation of the Monitored Pulse Fence themselves. This on-site project provided a valuable opportunity for the team to collaborate and gain practical experience with Gallagher’s technology.
The Gallagher Monitored Pulse Fence acts as a proactive deterrent by forming a secure physical barrier and immediately alerting the team to any breach attempts. The system integrates intelligent sensors, advanced hardware, and intuitive software to deliver robust site protection. High-tensile wires deliver safe, short pulses designed to deter and delay unauthorised access.
The system also delivers real-time monitoring by detecting tension, vibrations, or disturbances in the fence and sends immediate alerts to Gallagher Command Centre. Importantly, the system can distinguish between genuine threats, wildlife, and environmental factors, significantly reducing false alarms.
Also important, Gallagher Monitored Pulse Fence includes configurable zones, allowing Watters to adjust voltage levels, alarm responses, and reporting to suit specific site needs. Management of the system is centralised, providing live monitoring, access to historical logs, and automated reporting.
Electric gates with access control were also installed to automate entry points and enhance overall site security. A suite of Gallagher controllers, including the F41, F42, Controller 6000, and Controller 7000 Single Door, was deployed to provide reliable and scalable access control across key areas of the site. Bluetooth credentials were introduced to streamline team access and reduce the cost associated with replacing lost or misplaced credentials.
The Shepparton site also features Gallagher’s access control on electric gates, and both access control and intruder detection across office buildings and sheds. Intruder detection sensors were installed throughout the office buildings and sheds to ensure comprehensive protection across all internal areas.
Neil Jarvis, sales manager for Victoria and Tasmania, Gallagher Security, thoroughly enjoyed working with the Watters Electrical team on its site and said the project came together quickly.
“The Watters Shepparton site deployed a fully integrated solution, which included some of Gallagher’s key perimeter products,” Jarvis said.
Meanwhile Watter’s Cameron Shields said the installation process was quite easy for the team.
“It gave our trade staff a training opportunity to work on the Gallagher fence, which also supports their understanding of the system,” Shields said.
Shields said a key advantage the new solution is its ability to monitor numerous remote storage sheds across the site. Instead of staff needing to walk around each night to check that all sheds are closed and locked, the system allows them to remotely see which sheds are secure and which have been left open.
According to Shields, the new Gallagher access control system has also helped improve operational efficiency, and simplify user administration, reducing incidents.
“Having Gallagher solutions for the fence perimeter, gate access control, intruder detection, and building access controls gives us the advantage of a user-friendly system for our staff,” Shields said. “Plus, it gives us a great demo site for showing our customers Gallagher solutions.”
