Unlike standard Fresnel lenses that rely on uniform groove geometry, LODIFF lenses use individually engineered aspheric grooves with variable widths across the lens surface. With LODIFF, while groove width changes to suit optical requirements, groove depth remains consistent. This structure significantly reduces diffraction effects and improves energy transmission, delivering sharper focusing and more efficient use of available infrared energy, especially within the 8–14-micron wavelength band associated with human body heat.

LODIFF lenses are typically manufactured using POLY IR, a proprietary infrared-transmitting polymer also developed by Fresnel Technologies. This material provides stable transmission characteristics, environmental durability and resistance to temperature and humidity changes, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor devices.
