What Attitude Should Techs Take To Security Expo In Sydney Next Week?

What Attitude Should Techs Take To Security Expo – It’s always possible to be overwhelmed when walking into a big expo hall, to imagine change is so incremental it becomes possible not to see the seismic shifts under the electronic security market, to get lost in the process of greeting every single person in the room.

Instead, security installers and integrators visiting Security Exhibition & Conference in Sydney next week need to ensure they don’t stay too connected to existing solutions, don’t only visit the stands of current suppliers, don’t stay safely in the middle of the aisles when passing the spooky exhibits of manufacturers and suppliers they don’t know yet.

It’s also important to visit the smaller stands crammed up the back. This is where you’ll find left-field bleeding-edge solutions, as well as kit that is being brought in by teensy new distributors you’ve never had heard of. You’ll also find quirky crossovers from the comms, IT and cybersecurity verticals throwing a lure into new water. Take a prowl and try not to be put off by folk with more to say than they have to show.

Go out onto the expo floor with an open mind and a vigorous attitude. Ask yourself questions like:

What will save money?
What will deliver faster response for customers?
What will reduce their risk and yours?
What new technologies will allow you to do more with less?
What’s more cyber secure – remember this is your biggest point of exposure!
What are the new technology partnerships at the show?
What integrates best with clients’ solutions now?
Which technologies performs best in the worst conditions?
What’s the most reliable solution and thus costs least in callouts?
Whose solutions are obviously getting left behind?

Manufacturers and distributors – yes, we love them too – are nevertheless committed to the brands they manufacture or carry, and this can lead to inevitable bias, to a vision of technological possibilities that is narrower than the wide angle view you should be striving for.

Walk into the event and completely let go of your preconceptions – see the market for what it is – vibrating with possibilities for proven technologies to deliver ever more situational awareness, response and reporting, and to do it in ways your customers have never seen before.

Take full advantage of the opportunity to imbibe security solutions as they might be – not as they used to be last year. And in the first 24 hours after you’ve attended the show, jot down some ideas – don’t leave it a week – the magic will seep out of it.

Trends, directions, opportunities, threats, products that bear a second look – it’s an exciting time for electronic security people. Get in there and get into it.
