The New Zealand Security Association (NZSA) hosted the annual Security Awards November 20 at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland.
Sponsored by The Skills Organisation, the awards recognise outstanding security personnel across New Zealand. Winner of the Ian Dick Memorial Award for Security Officer of the Year 2015, James Durning was a particular standout on the night.
Nominated by Scott Murray, General Manager of Recon Security Limited, James was recognised for his outstanding professionalism and ability to remain calm under pressure during patrols when the recent Taylor Preston Meatworks fire broke out in Wellington. As a model security officer, his quick thinking during the emergency saved millions of dollars in potential damages.
Other highlights of the night included an inspirational opening speech from former NZSA Chairperson, Bronwyn Paul on behalf of NZSA Chair Doug McCormick.
