Sydney Metro Seeks Object Detection, Corridor Intrusion Detection

Sydney Metro is requesting registrations of interest from suitably qualified and experienced service providers to supply and install a corridor intruder detection system (CIDS) and an object detection system (ODS) for the Sydney Metro City and Southwest projects.

Sydney Metro City and Southwest will operate as a Grade of Automation (GOA) 4 railway – Unattended Train Operation (UTO). In accordance with EN-62267 and project requirements, in UTO mode, provisions need to be made to reduce the risk of collision with persons and obstacles in the corridor. To meet this requirement, a corridor intruder detection system and an object detection system is needed.

The provision of a CIDS is specifically required to detect unauthorised persons in the UTO zone between stations. On the other hand, the ODS is required to detect objects entering the UTO zone with the potential to cause a Sydney Metro rolling stock derailment, such as objects from the adjacent ARTC corridor and objects from overbridges and bridge parapets.

Sydney Metro is Australia’s biggest public transport project – by 2024, Sydney will have 31 automated Metro stations and more than 66 kilometres of new automated Metro rail – by the end of the decade, the network will be expanded to include 46 stations and more than 113 kilometres of rail.

This tender closes February 29, 2022 – you can find out more here.
