ASIAL, OSPA, ASM Award Winners Announced

The Australian Security Industry Association (ASIAL) has congratulated all the winners in the 2021 Australian Security Industry Awards for Excellence, Outstanding Security Performance Awards and Australian Security Medals Awards which has drawn many interesting and deserving entrants, presenting the independent judging panel with difficult choices.

“The professionalism of the award recipients illustrates the outstanding contribution the security industry has provided in helping to keep our community safe during what has been a particularly challenging period,” said ASIAL CEO, Bryan de Caires.

Among the 2021 Australian Security Industry Awards for Excellence recipients were:

* Securitas for the Canberra COVID-19 Temporary Hospital delivered in just 13 days working around the clock.

* Omnivision for an integration for a national media company that incorporates CCTV, access control, alarms and more in a centrally managed location.

* SAAB which delivered a state-of-the-art security management system for a 1700 bed correctional centre in a remote NSW location.

* Northern Protective Services based in Kununurra (WA) for working closely with the indigenous community offering traineeship programs, with one of their successful candidates going on to become the Young Indigenous Ambassador for the Kimberley Region.

* EZI Security Systems for their extreme performance hostile vehicle barriers that can be shallow mounted and offer fast removal if access is required, yet can arrest a 7200kg truck impact at 64kph in under 1 metre.

* Joint winners Insurance Australia Group and Royal Eagle Security Services for their programs to offer flexibility and professional development to support women in the workplace.

* Najibullah Mahdawi, who as part of the security team at the Dandenong Shopping Centre has defused many security situations, while also running a community program for Afghani youth in the area.

Recipients of the international Outstanding Security Performance Awards included:

* Eliza Thorn from Intelligent Risks, who played a central role in the evacuation of more than a hundred at-risk Afghans from Kabul ahead of the advancing Taliban.

*Tony Keane, Head of AFL Integrity and Security. During the Pandemic Tony’s role has been critical to the survival of the AFL business and without his direction the AFL may never have completed the 2020 season.

* The Sydney Local Health District Security Team, NSW Health responsible for the Homebush mass vaccination and testing clinics, hotel quarantine and ramping up security at all hospitals to maintain compliance to high standards.

* The partnership between MSS Security and Tennis Australia for delivering the security overlay for the 2021 Australian Open was another winner.

Recipients of the Australian Security Medals Foundation Awards included:

* Clifford Hagart (Australian Security Medal for Valour) for his bravery in tackling a knife-wielding attacker as he attacked a policewoman at the South Hedland shopping centre.

* Robert Delaney (Australian Security Medal) for his leadership and drive in building a stronger collaborative partnership between law enforcement, business and security.
