ASIAL is calling on the security industry to unite against COVID-19 by getting vaccinated.
Given the important frontline role performed by security personnel in keeping the community safe, this is a vital safety issue and vaccination provides a way that the industry can protect colleagues, loved ones and the wider community.
According to ASIAL, important things you can do as an employer right now include:
1. Communicate, encourage and support your workforce to get vaccinated by providing them with access to reliable and accurate information about the vaccine and where they can get vaccinated. Also consider developing employee champions by encouraging staff to share their vaccine experiences with colleagues, family and friends.
2. Assist your employees to get vaccinated where possible by being as flexible as you can when it comes to staff getting vaccinated. For example, consider whether to allow employees to have time off or move shifts to enable employees to attend vaccination appointments.
3. Maintain accurate records employers can legally ask staff about their vaccination status, though it is up to individual employees as to whether they choose to share this information with you. If an employee does choose to notify you of their vaccination status, all employers should know and understand their privacy obligations in relation to the collection, use and disclosure of this sensitive health information.
4. Continue to take preventative steps to ensure you maintain the health and safety of everyone in the workplace.
