Best Torch For Security Patrol Officers

This is not strictly an electronic security question, but could SEN give us some advice on the best torches for security patrol officers – we are re-equipping our vehicles and looking for something next level for external work – checking perimeters, roofs and the insides of big warehouses during patrol responses.

Q: In SEN’s opinion the handheld torch that best combines long range, light weight, long battery life, and grip is Olight’s Javelot Pro 2100 long-range. We’ve used many torches in external applications and in our experience, this is the one people reach for when getting eyes on a situation is of utmost importance. It’s so good people will go for it even when a wider beam pattern might serve better.

The config is dual switch and there are 4 brightness modes – 2100, 600, 150, and 15 lumens. The higher brightness ranges are claimed to push 1080 metres. We’ve not tested this empirically (the manufacturer has tested it to ANSI/NEMA FL1), but in our experience the Javelot 2100 has real punch, and will throw up to 500 metres with ease. The beam is relatively tight, and this reduces refraction from fog and rain in extreme conditions.

The torch comes in a pelican case, has Cree XHP35 HI LEDs, a 7000mAh li-ion battery, is 247cm long, weighs 380g, has universal USB charging, has a 60-month warranty and you get a nylon holster which is perfect for belt or vehicle applications. The IPX8 (submersible to 1 metre) body is aluminium alloy with HAIII hard-anodized, anti-abrasive finish.

Colour temp is mid-cool at 4000k, there’s an SMO reflector and the lens is AR coated to reduce internal reflections and increase output. A battery indicator highlights low, charging and fully charged, there’s low voltage charging, and a thermal switch automatically adjusts brightness to ensure there’s no overheating. There’s also mode memory, so if you favour 600 in most applications, the torch will wake up in 600 whenever you power up.

Regardless of all these fun specifications, the key here is the unit’s operational reach. It’s seriously impressive.
