Ge Expands Ethernet Fibre Range

This new EtherNavT series, the DEV7100 Series is unique in that it is an MPEG-4 video CODEC that effectively allows a single baseband NTSC video, camera control data and audio signal to be IP encoded and transported on a 10/100 Base-T Ethernet network through a standard electrical and optical output. Typically CODECs require an additional media converter to accomplish an optical output. The DEV7100 is the first such product to appear on the market. The IFS DEV7100 is controlled with GE Security Symnet software that allows monitoring and remote Pan/Tilt/Zoom control that can be accomplished by a central monitoring station or any computer with an Internet connection. This is another key element in EtherNavT series of products designed to operate over an Ethernet transmission backbone. The output of the DEV7100 Series can be 10/100TX electrical, 100 FX optical or a baseband video output connection. It has the capability to be remotely configured via the Internet. It also features standard, medium and high-quality settings for bandwidth conservation and functions as both an encoder and decoder. As the move toward IP (Internet Protocol) transmission becomes more accepted, signal transport over Ethernet becomes essential and the DEV7100 allows an existing installation’s legacy surveillance equipment be used without replacing with new Ethernet protocol equipment. “The DEV7100is viewed as the Ethernet based alternative for the very popular IFS AM, FM and Digital Fiber Optic transmission equipment as well as the recently introduced CopperlineT UTP transmission products,” said Robert Gallagher, GE Security Director of IFS Product Engineering. These products are another indication of the company’s decision to become more than just a fiber optic transmission products company. “GE Security’s IFS product line is evolving into a communications product source, offering signal transmission solutions for virtually any medium. The introduction of this new product further reinforces GE Security’s commitment to the next generation of IP based security solutions.” said Frank Haight, IFS Director of Marketing. The DEV7100 can be used with any Ethernet transport system, but was designed to increase the usefulness of legacy products when used with the EtherNavT managed switch in a VLAN. The EtherNavT DEV7100 was designed from the ground up to be mechanically and environmentally hardened for use in unconditioned environments. It is designed to pass the rigorous tests needed in order to meet the CALTRANS and NEMA test standards. Many of the current competitive models available are not designed for more demanding outdoor and factory installations. “The IFS EtherNavT DEV7100 Series is designed for use in today’s modern Security, Intelligent Transportation Systems and Industrial Control applications where monitoring and control are taking place in centralized locations.” said Steve Carrozzo, IFS Director of Sales. “These applications are extremely sensitive to variable delays and network congestion, which are unavoidable on a shared Ethernet network,” continued Carrozzo. All models of the EtherNavT Series are FCC and CE compliant and have an operating temperature range of between – 40 degrees C to + 74 degrees C. And like all IFS products, they are backed by an exclusive Comprehensive Lifetime Product Warranty.
