According to the tender, the current access control and CCTV systems supporting the building have been in operation for a considerable time and have had ongoing upgrades to meet compliance and security needs. They are required to be upgraded and replaced before they reach end of life.

Geoscience Australia is custodian of the National Mineral and Fossil Collection which includes 15,000 mineral, meteorite, gemstone and fossil specimens. Geoscience Australia has been responsible for the management and preservation of this collection since 1927.
