Greenlee EK50ML120 Micro Crimping Tool

Greenlee has released its EK50ML micro crimping tool, a small battery-powered crimper that’s distributed locally by Digi-Key that can crimp 65 per cent faster than manual ratchet crimpers.

The EK50ML weighs about 1kg, and can undertake 250 crimps per charge from its 10.8V Lithium-Ion battery. Features include an integrated LED light to illuminate dark corners.

This is quite a compact tool but it’s not as exacting as some of the manual options. The big advantage here is when you’re undertaking complex installs and in small crimp sizes that being close to the tip of the manual tool are harder to make clean work of.

Something that’s nice is that the Greenlee has ‘Powersense’ technology, which allows you to slightly depress the handle to grip the connector, then to undertake the crimp only when you depress tool’s trigger. The mechanism delivers 90 per cent of the crimp force.

This Greenlee is more expensive than a high-end ratchet crimper, such as a TE Connectivity tool. Whether or not a powered crimper is for you depends on how many connections you make and how well you can make them manually.

* Relatively light weight just under 1kg
* Integrated LED light
* Crimps 65 per cent faster than manual crimper
* Greenlee PowerSense trigger technology
* Overmolded grip for maximum comfort
* Local distributor is Digi-Key.
