HID, Soloinsight, CTS Release Integrated Check-In Kiosk

HID, Soloinsight, CTS Release Integrated Check-In Kiosk Combining Document Authentication, Facial Recognition, Visitor Management And Credential Issuing.

HID, Soloinsight, CTS Release Integrated Check-In Kiosk – HID, Soloinsight and Connected Technology Solutions have released an integrated self-service visitor check-in kiosk combining document authentication, facial recognition, visitor management and credential issuance for enterprise and critical infrastructure applications.

The solution integrates the HID ATOM document reader and HID U.ARE.U facial recognition module with Soloinsight’s CloudGate visitor management and physical identity and access management platform in a kiosk manufactured by Connected Technology Solutions (CTS). Designed for applications including hospitals, data centres, offices and logistics facilities, the kiosk verifies visitor identities before access credentials are issued and maintains a centralised record of visitor activity.

The check-in process begins with a host pre-registering a visitor in CloudGate, which sends the visitor an email invitation containing a QR code. On arrival, the visitor scans the QR code at the kiosk before verifying their identity using the HID ATOM document reader.

ATOM supports passports, driver’s licences and mobile IDs and can capture encoded passport and identity document data, barcodes and RFID or NFC chips. The reader also detects document integrity features as part of the authentication process.

Identity verification is then undertaken using the HID U.ARE.U Face Module, which provides live facial verification against the identity document. The system rejects a scan where the face does not match the document or where a live face is not detected.

Once verification is completed, CloudGate confirms the check-in, the kiosk prints a visitor pass and the visitor’s host is notified. The system can also be configured to allow approved returning visitors to check in without a host where required. CloudGate records each transaction in a centralised visitor record, creating a history of visitor activity for investigations, reporting and compliance requirements.

The platform supports more than 40 compliance frameworks, including HIPAA, GDPR, SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001. It also provides native support for HID Signo readers and mobile credentials, allowing the visitor management system to operate alongside existing HID deployments.

How a visitor moves through it
1Pre-registerHost registers the visitor in CloudGate; a QR code arrives by email
2Scan QRVisitor scans the code at the kiosk on arrival
3Document checkATOM reads the passport, licence or mobile ID and checks integrity features
4Face matchU.ARE.U verifies a live face against the document
5Pass + notifyCloudGate confirms, the pass prints, the host is notified
The gate is step 4: the scan is rejected if the face doesn’t match the document, or if a live face isn’t detected — which is the specific weakness this kiosk targets, where identity would otherwise rest on typed-in details or a receptionist eyeballing a licence. Approved returning visitors can be configured to skip the host requirement.

CloudGate provides a vendor-neutral layer over existing access control infrastructure and supports around 30 physical access control system connectors and more than 150 integrations across IT, HR, identity and access management and security information and event management systems.

According to HID, combining document authentication and facial verification addresses a weakness in visitor management processes where identities may otherwise be based on manually entered information or visual inspection of identity documents. The integrated kiosk is engineered and manufactured at CTS’s Wisconsin headquarters in the United States, is ADA-compliant and comes with a 3-year warranty.
