IDEMIA Facial Recognition Tops NIST Identification Tests For All Mugshot Types.
IDEMIA Facial Recognition Tops NIST – IDEMIA Public Security’s facial recognition algorithm has achieved top results in the latest NIST Face Recognition Technology Evaluation 1:N Identification benchmark.
The NIST FRTE 1:N benchmark tests the ability of facial recognition systems to identify a person by comparing a single face against databases containing millions of enrolled identities. Testing covers operational applications including border management, visa processing, law enforcement investigations and national identity systems.
IDEMIA ranked first across all mugshot identification types, including NIST’s largest evaluation against a gallery containing 12 million identities.
The company also ranked first for visa border identification, with identification errors reduced by more than 40 per cent compared with its 2025 submission.
According to IDEMIA, its algorithm also achieved a top-tier result for fairness in false positive identification rate, an important consideration for large-scale government and identity applications.
NIST results are highly relevant to applications requiring facial identification across very large databases, where accuracy, processing performance and false-positive rates become increasingly important as the number of enrolled identities increases.
“Achieving top performance in the latest NIST FRTE 1:N Identification evaluation reflects our continued commitment to pushing the boundaries of biometric innovation,” said Vincent Bouatou, chief technology officer, IDEMIA Public Security.
“Today’s identity ecosystems demand solutions that can accurately identify individuals across databases containing millions of identities while remaining fair, fast, scalable, and operationally efficient.
“These results validate our investments in AI-driven biometric technologies that enable governments and agencies worldwide to strengthen security while improving the experience for travellers and citizens alike.”
