K-Tronics Launches National Technician Challenge – A new hands-on SecTech Technician’s Challenge is part of SecTech Roadshow this May, giving installers and technicians the chance to test their skills under pressure using the latest products from Aritech and Axis Communications.

The challenge combines a knowledge component with a practical speed test, designed to simulate real-world installation conditions.

Participants complete a short multiple-choice test, with time penalties applied for incorrect answers, before moving to a live cabling exercise requiring them to strip and punch down cable to connect a speaker.

Timing stops when a final audio announcement is completed. The network handshake has some latency so if you give it a go, you’ll need to really go at it, Melbourne people.

“Technicians will be working against the clock across both knowledge and practical tasks, which really reflects the demands of the field,” said Jessica Reynolds of K-Tronics.

“We’re also giving techs the opportunity to get hands-on with new products from Aritech and Axis, so there’s a real-world element to the challenge.”

The competition is running across all 5 SecTech Roadshow cities, with results feeding into a national leaderboard – at the moment the top spot is held by tech from Sydney with a speed around 1 minute and 45 seconds.

The fastest technician overall will take out the national title and a $500 prepaid Visa card, while each city will crown its own winner, who will receive vouchers and a state title. All participants will score entry into a $200 Visa card prize draw.

You can register for SecTech Roadshow Melbourne here to enter the contest – Sectech opens 12-6pm MCEC this Tuesday May 19 – Adelaide is this Thursday May 21! Register here and we’ll see you there – read more SEN news here.
