Kantech KT-4 Controller That Grows With The Job

Kantech KT-4 Controller That Grows With The Job Growing From Small Offices To Multi-Site Roll-Outs.

Kantech KT-4 Controller That Grows With The Job – BGW Technologies senior product manager Stanley El Komala says the Kantech KT-4 4-door controller gives installers one platform for everything from a small office to a multi-site rollout.

“Every access control job raises the same question: how big will this site get?” explains El Komala. “With the Kantech KT-4 installers no longer guess. You can put a KT-4 in as a standalone controller on a small site, and when the client grows, it moves onto EntraPass Security Management Software without pulling anything out. It’s the same hardware from basic door control right through to an enterprise deployment.”

Each KT-4 manages 4 doors, or 8 readers for in/out control, and can expand to 256 inputs and outputs through optional modules. Ethernet is built in, with optional Wi-Fi or PoE++ for locations where cabling is a challenge.

“Having those connectivity options in the one controller means fewer surprises on site,” El Komala says. “If a cable run is awkward, you’ve still got a way in. Cyber resilience is the other big conversation.”

“The KT-4 delivers there, too, with end-to-end encryption when paired with ioSmart readers and smart cards, while AES encryption protects communications across the network.”

The pitch, drawnSame cabinet on day one and at the multi-site rolloutEl Komala’s point is that the sizing question goes away. Here is what changes at each stage, and what doesn’t.
01StandaloneUp to 4 doors, configured in a browser from the embedded web server. No management software, no server.
02On EntraPassThe same controller joins EntraPass Security Management Software. Intrusion arming, disarming and event monitoring from one platform.
03Enterprise, multi-siteMore KT-4s, I/O modules to 256 points, Wi-Fi or PoE++ where cabling is hard, all under the one system.
Hardware unchanged across all three · nothing pulled outThe other conversation: where the encryption sits

Reading it: the card-to-controller leg is encrypted end to end only with ioSmart readers and smart cards; a KT-4 on legacy readers still gets AES on the network leg. That distinction is what an end user asking the “harder questions” will want answered in the spec.

“We are hearing that many end users are asking harder questions about cyber security, these days – and rightly so. Being able to show the data is protected from the card to the controller and across the network makes that discussion straightforward.”

El Komala says that for smaller sites, an embedded web server allows configuration straight from a browser with no extra software.

“The controller also keeps running if the network drops, storing up to 100,000 cards and 60,000 events locally – doors keep working and nothing is lost, which is exactly what a client expects,” El Komala says.

“KT-4 supports both standalone operation and full integration with EntraPass Security Management Software, allowing users to deploy anything from basic door control to advanced, enterprise-level access solutions, allowing arming, disarming and event monitoring from one platform.

“Practical touches such as removable terminal blocks, supervised lock power, low-bandwidth communication and double or triple card swipe actions round out a controller built with installers in mind.”
