Nexar Focuses on Gender Equality & Diversity

Nexar Group, an Australian-owned security provider delivering risk advisory, protective security and security services reports it has established its growth with a focus on gender equality and diversity.

“We have ensured that this has been integrated into our corporate responsibility strategy,” said Nexar’s Luke Montgomery. “We work in a very male-dominated industry and we want to redefine this stereotype, and have tailored our recruitment and operational processes by finding the right person for the role regardless of gender, culture or beliefs.

“As a corporation, we have focused on this since inception and now have 50 per cent of our leadership team and over 20 per cent of our operational team as women, and we pride ourselves on ensuring our clients are coupled with the right professional personality fit for their requirements, regardless of gender or background. In recent times, we have been able to expedite our agenda and the programme is now lead by Brianna Hardie.”

Hardie joined Nexar Group in early 2020 according to Montgomery said she brings a unique set of skills to the team.

“Brianna has a background working with forward-thinking entities; including global recruitment, international operations and Australian-based quality assurance; for major retailers and telecommunication companies,” Montgomery said.

Based on previous experience, Hardie quickly identified the opportunity to enhance Nexar Group’s D&C Programme.

“I was surprised to see the huge opportunity for women to build a successful and sustainable career in security, considering it has a reputation as a male-dominated industry,” Hardie said. “Since sponsoring the programme, we have seen an uplift of 5 per cent of women in our operational teams and are now focusing on succession planning for our key roles.”

Key initiatives include:

* Interviews must include key diversity goals
* New advisory board has a gender equality target
* Implementation of a D&C committee
* D&C Goals for 2020
* Staff portal for direct feedback to the D&C committee
* Career development programme
* D&C as a metric on some client scorecards.

“We have found this approach has been extremely well received by our clients and industry leaders,” Hardie said. “This approach has improved our performance and our customer experience. General equality is an extremely important factor, especially in the security industry. We look forward to further enhancing our delivery model, with a focus on gender equality and diversity.”
