Norman Reveals Favourite SecTech CCTV Solution Combines Cloud And AI.

Norman Reveals Favourite SecTech CCTV Solution – CCTV test specialist Norman reports that his favourite CCTV function at so far at SecTech is the metadata Deep Search function of Vivotek’s Vortex AI video surveillance platform on the VSP stand.

Norman was impressed with Deep Search, which allows operators and managers to ask the system to show every instance of an event from all cloud-connected cameras. Because the system is cloud-based, the heavy processing takes place in the data centre, not at the edge – that’s means enterprise-wide searches are possible at surprising speed.

While the Vivotek team asked the system to deliver images of Coca-Cola trucks, Norman was equally impressed that the system could search for “woman in white coat walking a brown dog”, “car accident”, “vehicle fire”, “police officers” and the AI even made a good fist of some challenging requests including “fox” and “tank”.

Vortex AI is a comprehensive video surveillance platform built around advanced edge-based AI analytics and intuitive cloud-based management tools. Designed to reduce manual workload and enhance incident response, the system combines object detection, deep search, and semantic tagging capabilities to streamline video investigation and deliver targeted surveillance performance across large and complex environments.

At the heart of Vortex AI is that Deep Search function, which uses metadata-based indexing to allow operators to find specific people, vehicles, or events without needing to review footage frame by frame. Searches can be filtered by attributes such as facial profile, vehicle type, license plate, or scene-based actions like line crossing or loitering. These search features are embedded directly into Vortex cameras, ensuring real-time edge processing and rapid retrieval.

The Vortex AI Hub, available from the first half of 2025, adds centralised control for system-wide event management and automated workflows. Key modules include VLM (Vortex Language Model) semantic search, Event Insights, and Case Vault. The Event Insights dashboard offers real-time event data and visual summaries for informed decision-making, while Case Vault collates relevant video and metadata into a timeline for export.

Each Vortex camera is equipped with Smart IR and object-based analytics, maintaining image clarity in low light while minimising false alarms. Object tracking across multiple cameras preserves unique identifiers to ensure accurate data aggregation and simplify retrieval. Vortex Vision Object Analytics supports cross-camera searches within seconds, aided by AI-driven classification.

Vortex cameras also support license plate recognition and suspicious vehicle detection. Detected plates are archived to the cloud along with snapshots and trajectory data for post-event review. Facial recognition capabilities allow creation of searchable face profiles using uploaded images or captured footage, facilitating detection of VIPs or unauthorised personnel across the system.

Alarm actions are configurable via the Vortex Portal. Triggered events can be set to activate digital outputs, send push notifications, initiate email alerts, or call webhooks. Edge-based recognition and camera-integrated processing eliminate the need for third-party servers, improving system response and reducing bandwidth use.

You can check out Vortex AI on the VSP stand at SecTech Roadshow in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth – it’s well worth a look. You can register here, learn more about VSP here, or read more SEN news here.
