Aritech Releases Discovery Compatible CTPlus V3.0 – Aritech has released CTPlus v3.0, the latest version of the CTPlus software tool for programming and controlling a Tecom system using a computer.

CTPlus can also connect directly to WMS Pro for sites requiring web-based management, while allowing multiple operators to login and make changes at the same time. CTPlus provides a powerful and easy-to-use interface for programming Tecom devices, including the ability for technicians to send and retrieve programming or import/export system configurations to allow for off-site programming or system backups.

Idemia XTec Win Monster Biometric Contract – Idemia and XTec have won a monster $US50 million contract to provide cardstock and personalization services for the U.S. federal government’s biometric Personal Identity Verification (PIV) cards.

Idemia makes the PIV cards, and XTec is its distributor – these cards include the fingerprint and face biometrics of the bearer and are used to access a wide range of government resources, from physical access to government facilities to medical care offered by Veteran’s Affairs.

“We are honoured to have been selected by the GSA for this significant award, and are delighted to partner with Idemia to deliver innovative solutions that meet the stringent requirements of government agencies,” said Kevin Kozlowski of XTec.

Idemia said it was proud to have provided its personal identity verification (PIV) cards and common access cards to the department for more than 15 years.

“We appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with XTec on this opportunity and continue providing security-enhancing technology to the federal government,” said Idemia’s Donnie Scott.

OpenAI Voice Cloning Too Good To Release Without Stronger Rules.

OpenAI Voice Cloning Too Good To Release – Notwithstanding the company’s tendency to suggest its products are more revolutionary than the French, OpenAI’s announcement that Voice Engine is too good at voice cloning to release is a signpost for security people.

In the past a known person’s voice over any comms path might be considered legitimate but that’s going to change – and soon. OpenAI said the other day that results of testing show that its Voice Engine is so good at deepfake voice cloning it will certainly be misused so the company will hold release back until stronger rules and guidelines can be established for deployment.

Voice Engine is an update Open AI’s text-to-speech API and the conversation mode of ChatGPT and that uses text input and a single 15-second audio sample to generate natural-sounding speech that closely resembles the original speaker. It is notable that a small model with a single 15-second sample can create emotive and realistic voices”, according to OpenAI.

The company, which said it trained Voice Engine using freely available data said it was “taking a cautious and informed approach to a broader release due to the potential for synthetic voice misuse”.

“We hope to start a dialogue on the responsible deployment of synthetic voices, and how society can adapt to these new capabilities,” OpenAI said.

“Based on these conversations and the results of these small-scale tests, we will make a more informed decision about whether and how to deploy this technology at scale.”

Current terms and conditions for companies testing Voice Engine prohibit the impersonation of an individual or organization “without consent or legal right.”

They mandate clear disclosure of the use of AI to clone voices, and informed consent from anyone whose voice is being cloned. Plus, Open AI uses watermarks to make it easier to identify audio produced using Voice Engine.

The development of freely available voice clones is going open an entirely new realm of threat for security teams – not just operationally but within their own command structures.

Johnson Controls Rides Out Tough Q1 With Eye On Smart Buildings.

Johnson Controls Rides Out Tough Q1 – Johnson Controls International said a ransomware attack and economic slowdowns in China contributed to a tough first quarter 2024.

JCI sales in the quarter of $US6.1 billion were flat compared to the prior year and declined 1 per cent organically. GAAP net income from continuing operations was $374 million, while adjusted net income from continuing operations was $350 million.

“We continued to position Johnson Controls for the future, delivering solid first quarter results and appointing Marc Vandiepenbeeck as CFO,” said Johnson Controls Chairman and CEO George R. Oliver.

“Our value proposition of making buildings smarter, healthier and more sustainable is resonating with our customers and translating into record backlog. After managing through a temporary cyber disruption and the seasonality of the first quarter, we are entering the new calendar year with accelerating momentum.

“The management team continues to simplify and transform the company into a comprehensive solutions provider for commercial buildings,” Oliver said.

“As part of the continuous evaluation of our portfolio, we are in the early stages of pursuing strategic alternatives of our non-commercial businesses, in line with our objective to maximize value to our shareholders.”

Johnson Controls Rides Out Tough Q1

Of note in the earnings report was in the Asia Pacific building solution report, which saw sales in the quarter of $507 million, a decline of 22 per cent versus the prior year. Organic sales declined 21 per cent versus the prior year as mid single-digit service growth was offset by weakness in China.

“As the economic environment in China has slowed, we continue to make sure that we’re streamlined with our organization and aligning our resources to the market to be able to maximize what we believe is our entitlement,” Oliver said.

“And then we will make sure that we’re executing with discipline to achieve what we see to be very strong life cycle value creation with our services. This is what we played out in North America, and it has been very successful for us.”

Hikvision Polymer Anti-Corrosion Camera Lightweight And Rugged As.

Hikvision Polymer Anti-Corrosion Camera – Hikvision has launched polymer anti-corrosion cameras in PTZ and bullet form factors able to withstand harsh industrial and marine environments.

“Corrosion is an ever-present challenge that affects our daily use of electronic devices and the operation of machinery in industrial environments,” says Max Fang, Hikvision’s product director.

“By inventing polymer anti-corrosion technology and products, Hikvision provides a new, effective way to meet security needs in corrosive environments. Industries and households alike will benefit from these new cameras. They are a budget-friendly choice, and users will be amazed by their ruggedness and performance.”

Hikvision Polymer Anti-Corrosion Camera

The polymer housings of the new Hikvision corrosion-resistant security cameras eliminate the need for heavy and expensive metals like stainless steel or coated aluminum. The results are lighter, more robust cameras that are fully corrosion resistant and C5-M & NEMA 4X certified. The durability of every component is assured, from the camera mounts to cabling.

Meanwhile, Hikvision ColorVu and DarkFighter technologies ensure clear, full-color imaging, even in low-light settings. Powerful supplemental lighting enables clear imaging at long range. Hikvision AcuSense technology distinguishes between human and vehicular activities and other moving objects to reduce false alarms and to alert security teams to potential incidents.

End users can integrate additional third-party deep learning features into select camera models using the Hikvision Embedded Open Platform (HEOP) 2.0. They can also deploy their own algorithms on select camera models using the Hikvision AI Open Platform (AIOP).

The cameras are equipped with a built-in window heater to prevent the camera lens from fogging up during sudden temperature changes. At the same time, a motorized wiper ensures constant imaging clarity, even in heavy rain. The PTZ camera model also features Smart Pan-Tilt Correction, which automatically corrects the position of cameras that are moved slightly by strong winds.

These cameras have 1/3-inch progressive scan CMOS sensors, 120dB WDR, 40 metres of white light support, IP68 ratings against dust and weather – the PTZ has dimensions of 315 x 137mm and weighs only 760g – amazing weight for a full-featured PTZ, isn’t it.
