RCMP using Genetec’s Omnicast

OMNICAST is
intended to be used in conjunction with other state-of-the-art security
technology to secure several official Olympic sites and sporting venues. With
significant experience in large-scale and time-sensitive deployments, Genetec
and Omnicast are an integral part of the RCMP’s plan to offer the athletes, the
Canadian citizens and visitors, a safe and an enjoyable experience at the
Games.

A few features of
the Omnicast system that initially interested the RCMP were its network-based
open architecture which allowed for infrastructure flexibility and choice of
best-of-breed hardware, as well as its interactive alarm management and
advanced graphical mapping capabilities. Omnicast is ultimately intended to
give the RCMP a bird’s eye view of the Olympic sites and the tools to respond
expeditiously in case potential disturbances occur.

Genetec will also
provide training and onsite technical assistance. These additional services
will ensure that the RCMP is leveraging all the unique capabilities of the
advanced video surveillance platform, and that the system will be up and
running during peak and off-peak hours throughout the games.

“Our
Omnicast solution was designed for the large and complex requirements of such a
deployment, offering the RCMP the latest advancements in security technology
while ensuring a smooth and quick installation,” says Steve Bocking,
director of sales – Canada for Genetec.

“As a
Canadian-based company, we are proud to be a part of this historic event, and
thrilled to help the RCMP provide both the participants and the spectators with
a safe and memorable 2010 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.”

Powerful solution

The latest
version of the solution to be used in the Winter Games, Omnicast 4.4, is an
integral part of the Genetec Security Center. It provides seamless management
of digital video, audio and data across any IP network. End users can install
Omnicast as a standalone video system or activate it within the Security Center
and use a client application for monitoring their video cameras, Genetec’s
Security Desk.

One of the
beauties of the system is its ability to support a wide range of third party IP
surveillance cameras. Omnicast 4.4 now supports Axis’ full line of H.264
cameras, including camera models such as P1311, P3301, Q7401, Q7406, Q1755,
M1011, M1331, M3011, M7001 and more. Additionally, it now supports the
integration with Sony’s 4th generation IP megapixel cameras, from their Network
Camera line (SNC) which offers customer increased sensitivity without
compromising video quality.

Meeting the
demands of the industry for H.264 video compression, Omnicast 4.4 also supports
an even wider range of new H.264 products such as Arecont’s H.264 IP camera
product line, IQEye’s Alliance Dome H.264 product series and Pelco Sarix H.264
megapixel cameras.

Other hardware
extensions that have been developed and are supported in Omnicast 4.4 include
Optelecom-NKF ruggedized and non-ruggedized encoders, GE’s line of Camplus 2
camera domes, and more Panasonic IP megapixel cameras, giving customers in any
market a greater selection of integrated hardware with enhanced performance
capabilities and increased functionality. For customers who are looking to
install Omnicast in a virtual environment, virtualization is now possible with
this latest version.

“We put our
customers first in everything that we do, and the development of these new
features and integrations were inspired by the demands of our industry and by
discussions with real-life users,” says Francis Lachance, product manager
at Genetec for Omnicast.

“Features of the
Omnicast system that initially interested the RCMP were its network-based open
architecture which allowed for infrastructure flexibility and choice of
best-of-breed hardware, as well as its interactive alarm management and advanced
graphical mapping capabilities”
