SkillsTech Australia’s teacher of security technology John Fenech said the donation from the largest locksmithing company in Australia cements a strong industry partnership.
“API Locksmiths were the original supporters of our locksmithing pre-apprentice scheme at the Eagle Farm Training Centre and over the past four years have provided work experience for many of our students,” Fenech said.
“As well as supporting this scheme, API Locksmiths have provided sample locks and previously unobtainable components as well as Electronic Alarm and Access Control systems which ensure we are using industry standard equipment for quality training.
“This donation will be invaluable for use in the following three qualifications – Certificate III in Locksmithing, Certificate III in Security Equipment and Certificate IV Engineering (Locksmithing).”
API Locksmiths general manager Lionel Markwort says API and SkillsTech Australia have invested in ensuring the availability of pre-apprenticeship training for school students.
“It is extremely important that Australia’s largest locksmith employer works with SkillsTech Australia to ensure the shortage of tradespeople is addressed,” Markwort said.
“API sees SkillsTech Australia as an integral part of assisting in combating the current skills shortage.
“When it is economically viable, API donates invaluable equipment that will benefit the community and this donation assists the skill sets of all apprentices. Over many years of involvement with SkillsTech Australia, API Queensland have employed more than 25 apprentices and we anticipate this number will continue to rise.”
