Suprema Launches XPass Q2 And RFID Reader For High-Throughput Access Control.
Suprema Launches XPass Q2 And RFID Reader – Suprema has released the XPass Q2, a multi-technology reader designed to support QR, barcode, RFID and mobile credentials in high-throughput access control environments.
The reader is rated to IP65, supporting deployment in both indoor and outdoor locations, including entry gates and exposed access points.
The device combines native QR and barcode scanning with RFID card reading and BLE/NFC mobile credential support in a single unit. This allows a single reader to manage multiple user types, including staff, visitors, members and ticket holders, without requiring separate lanes or dedicated devices.
A dedicated scanning module is built into the reader, designed for fast and consistent performance across varying lighting conditions and presentation distances. This differs from conventional readers where QR functionality is added as a secondary feature, improving read speed and reliability at busy entry points.
User interaction is supported by LED indicators and adaptive audio feedback, maintaining throughput and reducing delays in high-traffic environments.

Integration is via Suprema’s BioStar X platform, enabling unified management of access control, visitor workflows and ticketing. Through the BioStar X API, third-party systems can integrate for functions including pre-registration, credential issuance, real-time access logging and compliance reporting.
The device supports standard barcode formats, allowing use with existing ticketing systems without modification. Dynamic QR functionality is supported via Suprema’s CLUe cloud platform, enabling time-limited or event-based credentials and extending use cases beyond static codes.
Operationally, the XPass Q2 is suited to environments with mixed credential types and high user volumes, including corporate facilities, transport hubs, event venues and membership-based sites, where a single reader is required to handle multiple access workflows.
“QR codes have become the standard credential for visitors and ticket holders, yet most facilities are still running readers that treat QR as an afterthought,” said Hanchul Kim, CEO of Suprema Inc.
“XPass Q2 was designed the other way around delivering the performance and simplicity operators need to confidently manage every user type from a single device.”
