Canon MS-510 Ultra-Low-Light CCTV Camera With 1-Inch SPAD Sensor Delivers Colour Image Streams At 0.0006 Lux.
Canon MS-510 Ultra-Low-Light CCTV Camera – Canon has released the MS-510, an ultra-low-light camera designed for applications requiring full-colour imaging across the entire angle of view in near-dark conditions – how dark you ask – 0.0006 – that’s sub-starlight.
Gathering photons is a gigantic (by modern standards) 1-inch Single-Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) sensor with approximately 3.2 million pixels. The sensor architecture enables detection of extremely low levels of light, supporting full-colour video at illumination levels down to 0.0006 lux.
This allows the camera to maintain usable colour imagery in conditions where conventional cameras would typically revert to monochrome or lose detail entirely – especially when things start moving around.
The SPAD sensor also delivers enhanced near-infrared sensitivity, supporting improved performance in night-time and long-range surveillance scenarios. This allows detection and identification of targets at extended distances under minimal ambient light.
Optical performance is supported by a B4 mount, enabling compatibility with Canon’s 2/3-inch broadcast zoom lenses. This allows use of ultra-telephoto optics for long-range observation, supporting applications where identification at distance is required.

Key Features
Image processing includes haze compensation, which reduces the impact of mist and atmospheric interference, and smart shade control, which manages highlights and shadows to maintain detail in high-contrast scenes.
The camera supports up to 20 custom image profiles, allowing operators to optimise performance for specific environments, including prioritising dynamic range or noise reduction.
Video output is available via 3G/HD-SDI for high-quality transmission, alongside LAN connectivity for IP-based control and integration. The MS-510 supports common control and integration protocols including ONVIF, Pelco-D and Canon’s NU protocol, enabling deployment within existing video management environments.
This is a high-end camera for serious security applications, including critical infrastructure, ports, perimeter security and border monitoring, where early detection and identification under minimal illumination is required.
