Vale Ernie Ricci, Integrators Australia Founding Team Member – The Australian security industry has lost Ernie Ricci, a long-serving electronic security professional and a key figure in the early development of Integrators Australia, who passed away this week aged 52.
Ricci was the first employee of Integrators Australia, joining the business in 2005 during its formative years and playing a central role in its growth prior to its eventual acquisition by Convergint Technologies.
Managing director of Convergint Oceania Dean Monaghan said Ricci’s contribution to the business and the broader industry was significant, both technically and personally.
“He devoted his entire career to electronic security,” Monaghan said. “He taught me about security systems from 2003 to 2005 when he joined me to start Integrators Australia. Although we quickly grew into what we are today, his approach of kindness and patient mentorship remained the same up to the point he could no longer work a couple of years ago.”
According to Monaghan, Ricci was widely known across the industry, with strong relationships among suppliers, customers and competitors built over many years working in the field and a reputation grounded not only in his technical capability but in the way he worked with others.
“Ernie was liked and respected by all,” Monaghan said.
Ricci’s career spanned the evolution of electronic security systems in Australia, from earlier analogue and integrated solutions through to more modern IP-based platforms, and he remained closely connected to installation and field delivery throughout that time.
His work on major sites and everyday projects alike reflected a practical understanding of systems and a commitment to getting installations right.
Colleagues remember Ricci as a hands-on technician who remained engaged with the work itself, including installations at challenging locations such as the MCG light towers, as well as mentoring younger technicians entering the industry.
“Customers trusted him because he always did what he said he would do while colleagues respected him because he approached every challenge with humility, patience and an unwavering work ethic,” Monaghan said. “Those who worked with Ernie knew there was never any fanfare or desire for recognition; he simply took pride in doing the job properly and helping others succeed.
“While the electronic security industry has lost a highly respected professional, those of us who knew Ernie have lost something far greater. We have lost a mentor, a teammate and, for many, a dear friend.
“Above all else, Ernie was a devoted father. He leaves behind his three children, Alessio, Stephanie and Xzavier, who were the centre of his world. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with them and with all of Ernie’s family during this incredibly difficult time.
“Ernie’s legacy will not be measured solely by the systems he commissioned or the projects he delivered, but by the countless people he influenced through his knowledge, generosity and character. His impact on our industry—and on those privileged to have worked beside him—will be remembered for many years to come.
“Rest in peace, Ernie. Thank you for everything you gave to our industry, our company and to all of us who had the privilege of calling you a colleague and friend.”
