Guardtech Launches 2-Way Duress Pen Featuring Integration With Access Control And Alarm Systems.
Guardtech Launches 2-Way Duress Pen – Wandering around a security event recently – SecTech Australia we think – a brochure was pressed into SEN’s editor’s hand for Guardtech’s snazzy new 2-Way Duress Pen, a compact wireless personal duress device supporting peer-to-peer communications and integration with access control, security and alarm systems.
The Guardtech 2-Way Duress Pen uses 2-way RF communications and incorporates a concealed activation button with an addressable RGB status LED. Operation is simple and discreet – when the user presses the button, the pen transmits an RF signal containing the pen ID, user ID, system ID and colour code.
Other pens and the system receiver are notified instantly, with LED, vibration and alarm indications. The pen also vibrates when a duress event is received, allowing users to be alerted discreetly. Cool, too, multiple systems can operate within the same environment, while the Guardtech receiver accepts panic events and provides an audible alarm and on-screen user ID display.
Something that is going to appeal to installers and end users is that Guardtech’s Duress Pen can be integrated with ICT Protege using Ethernet and RS-485, and with Inner Range Inception and Integriti solutions using Ethernet.
Wireless range is up to 500m line-of-sight, while Guardtech says indoor range depends on building structure – the usual wall materials, and installation quirks apply, with reliable 10s of metres range in typical indoor applications – not surprises here for security installers.
Power is supplied by an internal rechargeable Li-ion battery providing up to 16 hours of operation in monitoring mode. Charging and configuration are handled through a USB Type-C port discreetly located at the bottom of the device. Handy for setup and tweaks, configuration uses Windows-based PC software.
The pen measures approximately 130mm long by 20mm wide and 15mm deep and weighs approximately 30g. A clip allows attachment to clothing or a lanyard, while a red battery status LED provides low-battery indication. Guardtech’s Duress Pen is designed for indoor operation, so wearers need to be aware of that and keep it protected accordingly.
