ILS Protecting Hunter Water With Master Key System And Electromechanical Solutions.

ILS Protecting Hunter Water – Independent Locksmiths & Security is in the midst of a multi-year contract to upgrade Hunter Water’s master key system across its critical infrastructure network.

The contract, awarded in January 2022, involves the replacement of disparate legacy systems with a centralised, high-security solution designed to meet stringent operational and environmental demands. The initial 4-year agreement includes extension options that could take the project through to 2032.

Hunter Water is a key New South Wales utility provider and manages and maintains assets across a range of service environments. The upgraded locking system being deployed by ILS features a unique, restricted key profile with patent protection extending beyond 2035.

Hardware selected for the rollout is corrosion-resistant and includes cylinders designed to resist picking, bumping, and drilling. High-risk locations may also incorporate electro-mechanical or comparable locking solutions as the system evolves.

ILS began the program with a comprehensive site audit, documenting all lock hardware, assessing site conditions, and identifying logistical constraints. This data was used to create a detailed transition plan that aligned with Hunter Water’s operational schedule, and included milestones, resourcing strategies, and key management documentation.

According to ILS’ Ryan McGovern, a professional key management database underpins the system, recording lock types, locations, key hierarchies, and hardware specifications for long-term administrative control.

“The implementation aims to streamline physical access control, reduce the risk of unauthorised access, and support scalability for future security enhancements,” McGovern said.

“The system’s durability and consistent design will also simplify maintenance and improve lifecycle performance across Hunter Water’s asset base.”

“This project illustrates ILS’s capacity to deliver security infrastructure upgrades in sensitive and operationally complex environments.

“Through careful planning, tailored system design, and structured execution, ILS is delivering a master key solution that balances resilience, compliance, and operational flexibility.”
