The new patent, number 6,892,246, will act to strengthen the company’s intellectual property portfolio, the firm said. According to J. Collier Sparks, MDI’s CEO and president, the patent represents a major development in the area of video data storage using conventional computer memory incorporating mass storage technology. Once memory is maxed, says Collier, the oldest video data is degraded by removing random pixels from the video frame, thereby freeing up an enormous amount of data storage space. MDI intends to further develop this new mass storage technology, thus providing what appears to be a significant amount of space on a hard drive. The firm is currently developing proprietary hardware that will allow end users to better control the level of video data compression in accordance with their image resolution needs instead of hardware capacity.
