National Protective Services appoints Trent Gillies – Trent Gillies has joined growing security solutions provider National Protective Services as chief operating officer, bringing more than 20 years of operational leadership experience across the aviation and transport sectors.

As COO, Gillies will work across NPS’s protective services and electronic security operations, with a focus on supporting frontline teams, strengthening operational performance and maintaining consistently high standards of service for clients.

At Melbourne Airport Gillies recently led the Ground Transport Division and was responsible for frontline teams supporting the safety, security and movement of travellers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

National Protective Services founder and chief executive officer Rachaell Saunders said Gillies brought extensive experience leading people in complex, safety-critical environments.

“Trent has spent more than 20 years responsible for frontline teams in environments where getting it wrong is not an option,” Saunders said.

“That operational depth is exactly what we want as NPS grows. What stood out just as much was how he leads. We have built this business around the people who do the work, not simply the contracts we win, and that is how Trent has always operated.”

Gillies said NPS’s culture and its commitment to recognising employees as individuals were significant factors in his decision to join the company.

“Plenty of companies in this industry can quote a client a price for a patrol or a camera,” Gillies said. “What brought me to NPS was something more fundamental. This is a business that does not treat its people as numbers on a roster. People are known and valued for the work they do.

“That is one of the hardest things for an organisation to build and one of the easiest things to lose. In my experience, it is also fundamental to delivering consistently strong outcomes for clients.”

Gillies said his experience in aviation and transport had reinforced the importance of preparing frontline teams for circumstances that could not always be predicted.

“You can have every tool available and every procedure documented, but you must still be ready for the unexpected,” he said. “That is not a flaw in the work. It is the work.”

Gillies said he has already begun visiting NPS sites to meet employees and see the company’s teams at work firsthand.

“I am looking forward to working alongside the team and getting to know how our people operate, day and night,” he said.
