NZSA Lists Alarm Modules Impacted By 2G And 3G Sunset Slated For December 2025.
NZSA Lists Alarm Modules Impacted By 2G And 3G Sunset – NZSA has notified members of the pending 2G and 3G network shutdowns taking place in NZ at the end of 2025.
NZSA said the network closures will impact on communication devices that more than 7 years old and will impact devices including 2G Radionet Falcon and Enterprise modules, 3G Permacon modules (white PM45 devices but not white PM24 CATM1 devices), 3G T4000 modules, 3G Paradox PCS modules, 3G DSC TL modules, 3G AJAX alarms (early modules), 3G Bosch 3000 and 6000 modules, 3G Connect module and the 3G Arrowhead module.
NZSA said that installers who are uncertain of their exposure to the changes should contact suppliers to get manufacturer model numbers and recommendations for communications upgrades.
Operationally, lower frequency 3G typically propagates further than 4G and can also perform better in deep valleys, making 4G tower coverage an important consideration for installers commissioning new comms solutions in remote locations.

Benefits of 4G are packet and message switching, and much greater bandwidth of up to 1 Gigabyte compared with 21 Megabytes for 3G – this may be relevant for low latency delivery of video verification images. Another strength of 4G is that it can continue to deliver in the face of interference at the fringes of coverage.
Of the major telecommunications providers, 2degrees and Spark NZ will switch off 3G “late 2025”, while One NZ has given a termination date of December 31, 2025.
NZ providers point out that most users of mobile phones will not need to do anything all about the shutdown but have highlighted the fact alarm systems, medi-alarms and vehicle trackers that have not been upgraded will be impacted.
Installers who have implemented a program of comms replacement will need to be systematic and work with alarm system providers – there are plenty of proven comms modules available – you can find some at SecTech NZ this June (more here) if you’ve not sourced a solution yet.
You can contact 2degrees here, Spark here and One NZ here, or read more SEN news here.
