Optic Security Group Australian Expansion

Optic Security Group has expanded in Australia with the appointments of Matthew O’Sullivan as national director of operations in Melbourne and Tom Horozakis as GM NSW in Sydney.

“Optic – including former entities – has operated in the eastern states for decades, but the recent expansion of our Sydney and Brisbane teams and establishment of a Melbourne office reflect strong growth,” said Mark Lloyd, managing director ANZ.

Lloyd, who joined Optic in November 2020, has overseen a transition of the company’s headquarters from Auckland to Brisbane, with the majority of C-suite (senior executive) roles now based in Australia.

“It’s been an exciting time for Optic,” said Lloyd. “The JV with Tesserent in 2020 has proved a major force multiplier for our converged security capabilities. The convergence of networked information systems with industrial technologies and physical infrastructure is one of the macro-trends of our era, and organisations are increasingly cottoning onto the importance of having converged visibility on the state of their cyber and physical security resilience.

“Recent months have also seen significant developments in Optic’s physical security partnerships, including a new strategic partnership with Caretech and LAS Technology, which has significantly broadened our offerings in the healthcare space. We were also delighted to be recognised as the 2021 Top Government Partner for both Australia and New Zealand by our long-running channel partner AXIS Communications.

According to Lloyd, the appointment of Matthew O’Sullivan and Tom Horozakis to senior roles within Optic is timely as the company positions itself to meet high demand across Australia and significant business growth in Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria.

O’Sullivan comes to Optic with 3 decades of professional experience that have seen him progress from technical and frontline management roles to senior leadership in electrical and telecommunications engineering for a number of industry-leading organisations. As national director of operations, he leads Optic Security Group operations across Australia’s states and territories.

Meanwhile, Horozakis brings more than 20 years of construction and telecommunications experience to the new NSW GM role. A seasoned professional working on several complex national construction projects, he was most recently regional manager – telco NSW at Broadspectrum.

“As a provider of security solutions to enterprises and critical services across Australia, including defence, law enforcement, border security, air and seaports, transport infrastructure, and hospitals, we’ve got dozens of complex projects on the go at any time,” Lloyd said. “We’ve been recruiting talent at all levels across the Group to ensure we continue to raise the bar for our existing clients while meeting new demand.

“Health and aged care has certainly been a focus area. We’ve got a long track record in the installation and service and maintenance of security systems in hospitals across Australia and New Zealand, and it’s evolved dramatically with our work for nationwide providers such as Opal, and a slew of recent projects, such as Caboolture Hospital just north of Brisbane.”
