Manage Static Or Fry Components

Manage Static Or Fry Components When Commissioning And Installation Security Systems.

Manage Static Or Fry Components – Installers commissioning and installing security systems can inadvertently fry components with a single touch – particularly when the weather is dry and windy.

A static snap from the tip of your finger might reach voltages of 10kV, while the highest recorded ESD voltages are around 30kV (30,000 volts). That’s more than enough to ruin sensitive components, even if they are protected by a good board design.

What does the damage with ESD is fast high current waveforms and fast magnetic (H-field) or electrostatic (E-field) disturbances. These can induce voltages or currents in nearby sensitive circuitry, corrupting data, damaging circuits and causing failures that are nearly impossible to locate.

What you should get into the habit of doing whenever you are around controllers is wearing a grounded anti-static wrist strap connected to the panel housing. Any static electrical charge that builds up on your body is then immediately transferred to ground through the case of the controller.

Depending on how you are working, experienced technicians can also use a few other tricks for controlling static electricity around controllers and control modules. One trick is to leave the circuit board laying on top of an antistatic bag or antistatic foam whenever possible.

Another is to leave an ungrounded device plugged into an AC outlet with the power switch turned off. These places ground on the metal case. The technician can then work with one hand touching a metal part of the case. Any electrical charge that builds up is immediately transferred to ground. While this might work well for simple work, if you need 2 hands, things get harder.

Installers can also use antistatic footwear, which has an electrical resistance between 0.1 MegaOhm and 1000 MegaOhm. Available as boots, shoes, wellies or joggers, this footwear won’t allow a build-up of static energy in the human body. Another option is anti-static shoelaces or anti-static mats – the latter are ideal for commissioning work benches, but more difficult to use in the field.

Facial Recognition for Stadium Australia and Western Sydney Stadium.

Facial Recognition For Stadium Australia – NSW Government through Venues NSW has released a future tender seeking facial recognition technology for Stadium Australia and Western Sydney Stadium.

The release is short on detail so it’s not clear if the technology is being used to allow fast access to events or for purposes of patron identification. Both use cases are finding increased traction globally to enhance entrance point efficiency and elevate security.

VNSW has floated that it will be ready to approach market “quarter 2 2024/2025”, which is a broad timespan. VNSW is also seeking security network infrastructure upgrades for Stadium Australia and Western Sydney Stadium – we assume these support all electronic security sub-systems at the venues. You can find both tenders via the same link below.

Venues NSW is owner, coordinator, and promoter of a portfolio of publicly-owned sports and entertainment venues in NSW. The VNSW Network of venues currently consists of Stadium Australia (Accor Stadium), Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney Football Stadium (Allianz Stadium), Hunter Stadium (McDonald Jones Stadium), Western Sydney Stadium (Commbank Stadium), Wollongong Entertainment Centre and Wollongong Stadium (WIN Sports and Entertainment Centres), Newcastle Showground and Newcastle Entertainment Centre, and Stadium Fitness Facility (Sporting Club of Sydney).

SECTECH NZ & AUSTRALIA

SecTech NZ

SecTech Launching In NZ!

SecTech NZ is a new touring tradeshow that will bring the latest security products and technologies to security installers and integrators, security consultants and security managers in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch in July 2025.

SECTECH NZ is a compact, affordable 1-day event, with the action generated by quality business relationships and the latest product releases displayed on simple pop-up stands. SECTECH is about talking the talk, not about the glitz of hugely expensive corporate booths.

Exhibitors deliver their road cases to an Auckland location a couple of weeks before the event and we take over from there, using our own transport teams and crews to get crates onto stands in each city for a 12-noon opening. Then we reload them at 6pm and handle transport them to the next city.

SECTECH NZ will be the first time Kiwi distributors and manufacturers have had an opportunity to exhibit at an independent event, with past roadshows organised by industry suppliers.

SECTECH NZ is organised by the publishers of Security Electronics & Networks, who also organise SECTECH Roadshow, which launched in Australia in 2015 and trucks around 5 state capitals every May. Now in its 10th year and thoroughly bench-tested on the big island, the SECTECH Roadshow concept really works – we can’t wait to show you how well.

SECTECH NZ will be vigorously promoted through SEN’s respected sen.news website and twice-weekly EDM’s, as well as through direct digital and social media campaigns. SEN is ANZ’s longest-running security publication — its forebear, Security Australia, was first published in January 1981.

SEN has a close connection with New Zealand – our editor and co-founder John Adams was born in Dunedin and grew up in Hawkes Bay before migrating to Australia. SEN has honoured that connection over the years through unstinting support of NZ security technology companies. The SEN team is excited to expand that support with SECTECH NZ.

If you’re interested, please contact us at events@sen.news or call +61 2 9280 4425.

SecTech is launching In NZ and will bring the latest security products and technologies to Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch in July 2025.

Security For Goschen Rare Earths and Mineral Sands Project.

Security For Goschen Rare Earths – Goschen Rare Earths and Mineral Sands Project in the Loddon-Mallee Region of North-West Victoria is seeking security and fencing.

While the tender release does not stipulate the exact requirements of each stage of this project, the completed facility being developed by VHM will have multiple high value industrial plants and structures requiring layered security solutions, including access control, alarms, CCTV, doors, gates and fencing. The big footprint of this operation will cover 1534 hectares.

The project will mine rare earths, zircon-titania Heavy Mineral Concentrate (HMC), and mixed rare earth carbonate (MREC), as well as premium zircon, high titanium rutile (HiTi), HiTi leucoxene, and low chromium ilmenite. These minerals are used in a variety of applications which include permanent magnets needed in electric vehicles and offshore wind turbines, and superconductors.

The project will operate for 20-25 years and is expected to create at least 250 construction jobs and 400 full time jobs. The project will generate more than $A2 billion for the local economy and an additional $1.4 billion for the state.

Development of Goschen Project is planned to occur in 3 phases. Phase 1 consists of a mining unit plant (MUP), wet concentrator plant (WCP), and a rare earth mineral flotation circuit (REMFC) producing rare earth mineral concentrate (REMC) and zircon/titania heavy mineral concentrate (HMC) with first commissioning in H1, 2025.

Phase 1A will introduce a hydrometallurgical plant to further upgrade the REMC into higher value mixed rare earth concentrate (MREC) with first commissioning in H2, 2025, while Phase 2 will see the construction of an additional mineral separation plant (MSP) to produce final separable mineral sand products, including ilmenite, zircon, leucoxene, and high titanium rutile (HiTi rutile). Phase 2 will commence around 2 years after first production of Phase 1.

The tender releases notes mining is a highly regulated industry where all operations, works and activities are subject to regulation under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (2004) and regulations. VHM targets best practice in safety, environment, social, governance and sustainability – all equipment will be inspected and operators approved by VHM before mobilisation to site.

This tender closes on October 1 – there’s more information about security for the Goschen Rare Earths and Mineral Sands Project tender here, you can learn more about the project itself here, and there’s more SEN news here.
