SEN Weekly Wrap 006 – All The Latest Tidbits In Security This Week.

SEN Weekly Wrap 006 – All The Latest Tidbits In Security This Week.

SEN Weekly Wrap 006 – As usual we arrive at SEN Weekly Wrap with a queue out the door and last week’s Chiko rolls clambering out of the fryer.

Given the time constraints we’re going to pull the trigger on this one with less than the usual effort to turn the weekly wrap into Friday’s favourite dinner.

From the top, Singtel is in talks to sell Australia’s second largest Telco Optus to Brookfield, a $US900 billion global asset management fund. In other business news, the Northern Territory’s largest private security business – monitoring, alarms, patrols, etc – is for sale for $A4.25 million.

ISC West is looming – there’s always a monster contingent from ANZ. The big event opens April 9-12 and Gallagher’s Lisa Tubb has told SSN the biggest themes to emerge may be the convergence of security and simplicity for everyday users.

“There’s a real need to develop solutions with the average person in mind to protect against sophisticated cyber threats while still maintaining a simplified interface, and I expect we’ll see more vendors shifting their focus to that underserved market at ISC West,” Tubb said.

Milestone users were advised the other day they needed to provide customer information – full company name, street address, and country and contact details—like first/last name, phone number, and email address – for all purchases of Milestone products from here out.

SEN Weekly Wrap 006 – All The Latest

A purchase order guide has been created to assist in the submission of the customer information to Milestone distribution partners. From what consideration this stipulation emerges we’ve not yet heard – will keep you posted.

Optic Security Group continues its solid path, opening a new Perth office, expanding its WA team – you’d assume this is on the back of a contract win and such speculation would be justified given the company’s performance in projects. On that subject, the Optic-secured Auckland Rail Operations Centre opened during the week and it looks very swish – we’re guessing a Lee Ashton-designed solution.

Product stuff – Hikvision has released its new DS-K2702WX-E1(P) access control system which starts out with 2 doors and can expand using DS-K2M002X access modules to handle up to 126 doors per controller, as well as 200,000 cards. The system has RS-485 system comms and a bunch of other cool stuff we’ll talk about soon. The spec says PoE and Wi-Fi – interesting.

While we’re talking about big Chinese manufacturers playing outside their expected spaces, why not throw in Dahua’s AirShield wireless security system, which consists of alarm hubs, various wireless peripheral devices and several applications for end-users, installers and ARCs, all compliant with EN50131 Grade-2 standards.

More products – SALTO has launched MIFARE DESFire EV3 credentials and ASSA ABLOY has launched the Securitron DR100 Aperio wireless card reader with relay, which supports HID multiclass SE and NFC/BLE mobile access card technologies.

SEN Weekly Wrap 006 – All The Latest

The DR100 is said to be the industry’s first wireless reader with relay control providing simplified access control for single and double swinging and sliding doors where an integrated wireless lock can’t be used. These applications include turnstiles, overhead doors, loading dock doors and roof access doors.

Amazon Blink has released the Blink Mini 2 camera – a compact, weather-resistant design that can now be used indoors or outdoors. Blink Mini 2 offers enhanced image quality with improved low light performance, a wider field of view, and a built-in LED spotlight for night view in colour.

Blink’s business has quintupled over the last 4 years – no wonder given its new camera offers CV-enabled person detection and 2-way talk for the outrageously low price of $US39. Ouch.

Hanwha has added dual light capabilities to its Q Series AI cameras. The new dual-light capabilities combine with analytics for more accurate object, vehicle, and people detection. Meanwhile IDIS has released the DC-16212WRX 2MP video intercom. This unit is NEMA 4X, IK10, and IP66 rated product – everything you need in many external entry applications.

There’s a security RTO for sale in Sydney for $A2 million – you can check that out in the link below. Tenders have not lept into our lap this week, but we’ll be doing another scratch around tonight post kid’s bedtime, so re-visit and check the latest.

Here’s the latest on tenders – not much going on in Australia apart from the neverending story of NT health’s CCTV and access control system. Though Port of Newcastle needs an upgrade to enhance ship security – the tender is a bit opaque but something to look out for. And the Batchelor Institute in Darwin needs security. More action in NZ – Bay of Plenty needs security services, alarm monitoring and CCTV tech support. We’ll keep hunting and keep you posted…

There’s a link to that RTO sale here or you can read more SEN news here.
