The initial contract is valued in excess of $70 million. With replacements, spare parts, and systems for new recruits, the potential total value of the contract, including the service life of the Scott GSR, is expected to be in excess of $200 million.
“We are obviously delighted to have been awarded this contract and clearly it places Tyco at the pinnacle of military respiratory systems design. The opportunity to develop this technology with appropriate military customers is expected to generate significant revenue for the company,” said Ron Krisanda, President Tyco Safety Products.
This contract award follows a detailed 14-month assessment phase and a subsequent competitive selection program. The British MoD’s extensive testing confirmed that the Scott GSR is “No mere gas mask. It will give our troops an unparalleled level of protection from all manner of threats-from biological and chemical weaponry to industrial chemicals and other hazardous airborne materials,” according to Lord Bach, UK Minister for Defense Procurement.
Scott’s GSR was designed and tested to provide improved integration with current and future weapons systems and to reduce the physiological and psychological burdens on wearers.
