UK Security Sector Growing at 16 Per Cent

A STUDY commissioned by the European Commission DG Migration and Home Affairs to assess the technological and industrial base of the security industry in Europe has found the security sector in the UK is growing at 16 per cent.

The research considered existing statistical data and company surveys in UK, Germany, Estonia, Spain, France, Italy and Poland, with the results extrapolated to compile an assessment of the size, structure and performance of the overall EU security industry sector and market.

According to the research, 35 per cent of UK respondents citing that turnover has increased by more than 25 per cent over the past 5 years. A further 15 per cent of UK respondents reported growth of up to 25 per cent and only 13 per cent stated that they have experienced a decrease in growth.

According to the research, the UK’s security industry can expect growth of 16 per cent over the next 5 years, well above the average growth rate for all EU member state respondents of not inconsiderable 10 per cent.

The UK has a large security industry and the total turnover for all security products and services in the UK, as defined by the research, was €25.4 billion (not including defence), employing an estimated 352,000 people.♦
