Verkada Expands Physical AI Platform – Verkada has expanded its cloud-managed physical security platform, introducing vehicle surveillance, enterprise audio, AI integrations and new video analytics, cameras, access control and intrusion detection products and agentic AI.

A couple of these solutions immediately caught SEN’s eye, including the TK74 touchscreen intercom, AW33 wireless access controller and the 10-zone BP42 alarm panel.

An interesting new addition, the new Verkada Transportation range, extends the company’s video surveillance platform into vehicles, combining 3 ruggedised camera models, a 5G and Wi-Fi vehicle gateway and vehicle diagnostics integration with the Verkada Command management platform.

Security operators can access footage from moving or parked vehicles, review driving events across multiple vehicles and search recordings using GPS location, driving behaviour or vehicle health. Passenger privacy is supported through facial blurring.

Verkada has also introduced Verkada Sound Systems, a cloud-managed audio platform supporting site announcements, ambient music and automated security deterrence. The range includes Network Audio Players, which connect existing third-party speakers and amplifiers to Command, and Network Speakers with plug-and-play PoE connectivity.

Along with all this, the company has expanded its AI capabilities with Catalyst, a read-only Model Context Protocol (MCP) integration that allows approved third-party AI platforms, including ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, to interact with Verkada Command.

Catalyst allows organisations to develop natural-language workflows, operational reports and integrations using information from their physical security systems. Applications include checking retail shelf stock and creating IT support tickets when cameras or sensors lose network connectivity. The initial release provides read-only access, limiting the actions external AI agents can perform through the integration.

Verkada has also expanded its computer vision capabilities with new analytics covering wrong-way driving at industrial facilities, blocked doors, shipping container identification and retail concealment and grab-and-run events.

A new live mode for Unified Timeline supports real-time investigations, while an expanded camera range includes thermal cameras for detecting people and vehicles in low light, adverse weather and partially obscured environments. Verkada has also announced 6 new FIPS-validated cameras for government applications.

Integration with Skydio allows specified Command alerts to automatically transmit camera GPS coordinates to Skydio's autonomous drone platform, dispatching a drone to investigate an event and returning its video feed to Command.

Access control additions include the TK74 Touchscreen Intercom for multi-tenant buildings, AW33 Wireless Access Controller for wireless lock applications, AI reception capabilities and employee check-in functions for staff travelling between sites.

Intrusion detection developments include the compact 10-zone BP42 Alarm Panel (which we’re looking forward to digging into further), a new Better Sensor Protocol supporting daisy-chaining of up to 200 sensors across large sites, and fire alarm monitoring through the Verkada platform.

The company has also introduced Verkada Maps, a 3D digital representation of facilities within Command. The interface displays Verkada devices across a site and highlights the relevant device when an alarm or event occurs, providing a live video preview directly within the map.

All in all, these latest releases from the company suggest a vigorous development pipeline across a range of technologies and products.
