Australian Critical Infrastructure Resilience Paper Update – An updated 2023 version of the Securing Our Critical Infrastructure paper has been released the Cyber and Infrastructure Security Centre of the Department of Home Affairs.
The paper provides context, background and insights to assist and guide asset owners and operators, solutions providers and other stakeholders to protect assets and infrastructure critical to Australia’s national security.
The 3 primary goals of the initiative include supporting critical infrastructure owners and operators to effectively manage risks to the continuity of their operations through mature risk-based and resilience approaches.
It delivers initiatives through strong industry–government partnerships – supporting critical infrastructure owners and operators to strengthen their security and resilience through frameworks, tools and improved collaboration.
While the paper emerges from CISC, it’s obvious the scope of critical infrastructure resilience sprawls into electronic security, communications, networks and more, with most key solutions depending on multiple technologies for operational traction. The breadth of the risk profile is not just technological but takes in natural disasters, supply chain vulnerabilities and crisis response.
Support for national efforts to respond to the impacts on critical infrastructure include an exercise management function that supports the delivery of exercises for national crisis response operations and serious cyber incidents impacting critical infrastructure assets.
These exercises are conducted in partnership with Commonwealth and state and territory counterparts, and critical infrastructure asset owners and operators.
