Bosch To Sell Video Access Intrusion – As part of a move to realign the Bosch Building Technologies Division with a focus on regional integration of security, energy efficiency, and automation, Bosch plans to sell most its Building Technologies division’s product business.
The sale includes the video, access control, intrusion, and communication business units, a move that will impact on 4300 staff across more than 90 locations globally. Bosch said it was looking for a buyer who will take on all 3 business units together with staff and offices. Bosch said its fire alarms business will not be sold. Because of its importance for systems integration, it will be merged with the integration business.
“We want to become one of the global leaders for systems integration in building technology and to seize the favourable opportunities for growth in this market and to achieve this, we need to consolidate,” said Christian Fischer, deputy chairman of the Bosch board of management.
“In the future be focusing on systems integration as our core business. We are confident we will be able to find a buyer who will take over all 3 business units, and who will further strengthen the business and give it a secure future.”

Fischer said that for strategic reasons Bosch does not intend to develop access control, intrusion, and communication business units further but did not outline what those strategic reasons might be but margin is certain to be one.
“The product business is excellently positioned for a promising future under a new owner: innovative products, highly skilled associates, and a market environment with attractive opportunities for growth,” said Thomas Quante, president of Bosch Building Technologies.
The first hint of a realignment came when Bosch Building Technologies division acquired Paladin Technologies, one of the largest electronic security systems integrators in North America, for an undisclosed sum. Paladin has a team of 1500 people, operates from 35 locations in Canada and the United States, and has projected 2023 sales of around $US400 million.
Any serious move into security integration from Bosch is going to involve significant global investment and the company is well placed to undertake it. Founded by Robert Bosch in Stuttgart in 1886, Bosch is 94 per cent owned by charitable institution, Robert Bosch Stiftung, and has vast turnovers of around $US95 billion annually.
Following the realignment, Bosch Building Technologies division will employ 7600 staff and operate from 40 locations in 8 countries. As a brand-independent systems integrator with a wide-ranging portfolio of energy and building solutions, Bosch said it intends to benefit in the future from digitalization and a growing customer demand for integrated, intelligent, and cross-domain solutions in the areas of building security, energy efficiency, and building automation.
