MSS Security Launches BVLOS Drone Surveillance At Port Lincoln Airport.
MSS Security Launches BVLOS Drone Surveillance – MSS Security has partnered with the Lower Eyre Council to deliver Australia’s first Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone surveillance trial at Port Lincoln Airport.
Approved by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), the 12-month trial marks a national first in regional airport security operations. Operated from MSS Security’s Remote Operations Centre in Melbourne, the drone system is equipped with thermal and infrared imaging, spotlights, and a loudspeaker. It will conduct regular patrols of the airport perimeter and car parks, detecting and reporting unusual activity to operators, who can coordinate with local teams on the ground in real time.

The trial aims to demonstrate how remotely operated drones can enhance situational awareness, improve security coverage, and reduce costs for regional airports. If successful, the Port Lincoln deployment could serve as a test case for broader rollout of BVLOS drone surveillance across other regional and critical infrastructure sites.
The system provides continuous monitoring capability, especially during night hours, and reinforces aviation security without adding strain to on-site resources. MSS Security’s involvement extends beyond traditional airport screening and security services, highlighting its focus on emerging technology solutions.
The Port Lincoln Airport trial will contribute to national discussions about how BVLOS drone technology can support not only aviation safety but also broader applications in public safety and environmental monitoring.
