Scentre Group Bolstering Security – Scentre Group will bolster security across its 42 Westfield shopping centres after a knife attack killed 6 and injured 8 at Westfield Bondi Junction.

Scentre Group’s chief executive Elliot Rusanow said new security measures were being rolled across its ANZ shopping centres and included additional security staff. Westfield Bondi Junction already had strategies in place to respond to such attacks, including staff and customers taking shelter in shuttered stores, and these strategies likely saved lives.

“Our decision to increase security across the portfolio and provide financial support to our business partners following the tragedy at Westfield Bondi Junction will result in an increase in operating expenses in 2024,” Rusanow said.

“We are pleased that the NSW Premier Chris Minns has announced a review into a whole raft of things. We welcome that conversation, with the view of how we avoid these acts of violence unprovoked on innocent people ever happening again.”

NSW Government announced a review of personal protective equipment for security officers in the days after the attack, which killed 6, including security officer, Fazaz Tahir, and wounded 8, including security officer, Muhammad Taha.

NSW Premier Chris Minns has ruled out allowing security officers with stun guns or firearms but said the NSW government would consider other measures. These might include batons or immobilising sprays. In an importantly development, security officers at Westfield are now wearing protective stab-proof vests and their calls for these vests to be more widely available.

Since the attack there have also been widespread calls from providers to ensure security officers are trained to handle attacks with edged weapons. It’s also likely that video analytics will be leveraged in some applications to provide additional warning for response teams using CCTV solutions that are already in place.

Halo Amplifies Sensor Suite To Enhance Smart Building Capabilities.

Halo Amplifies Sensor Suite – IPVideo has released the HALO Amplify sensor suite designed to monitor and protect smart buildings.

The new suite adds a layer of sophistication with its array of capabilities designed to monitor and protect smart buildings and their occupants more efficiently. According to IPVideo, the Amplify product line is an invaluable risk mitigation tool that increases safety and drives cost reductions through enhanced operational efficiency.

People Counting and Management: HALO Amplify excels in providing detailed analytics about space utilization. This includes counting the number of people in a space, monitoring specific counts such as line crossings, and analysing dwell time to understand how long individuals occupy certain areas. These features are essential for optimizing space usage and ensuring compliance with building safety standards.

Environmental Monitoring: The suite is equipped to detect water leaks and flooding—a crucial feature that helps prevent potential property damage and loss. Additionally, it monitors open doors and windows, ensuring that all entry points are secured. Temperature and humidity monitoring at specific points within a room further ensures that the environment remains safe and comfortable for occupants.

Halo Amplifies Sensor Suite

Connectivity and Integration: Each sensor in the HALO Amplify suite can connect to a HALO Smart Sensor 3C/3C-PC and transmit data wirelessly. This integration allows for real-time updates to be displayed on various platforms, including the HALO Cloud Portal and mobile apps. The system supports up to 30 sensors, providing comprehensive coverage and data analysis.

Customizable Alerts and Responses: The system is designed to trigger alerts and messages based on the data it collects. These can be integrated with third-party systems to automate responses and ensure timely intervention when necessary.

Currently, the HALO Amplify line includes 2 sensors. The Amplify-people counting sensor and the Amplify-iPanic sensor. Plans for 2024 include the addition of 4 more sensors, including the Amplify-Open door/window sensor, the Amplify-water leak sensor, the Amplify-temperature/humidity sensor, and other applications currently in development.

IPVideo’s general manager, David Antar, said the ongoing development of Amplify emphasized the company’s mission.

“With our core focus on helping to make the world a smarter, safer, and healthier place, IPVideo has created this new connected sensor suite to raise the bar once again,” Antar said.

Telstra pushes back 3G shutdown.

Telstra Pushes Back 3G Shutdown Until August 31.

Telstra Pushes Back 3G Shutdown – Telstra has pushed back 3G shutdown plans in a move that gives techs 2 more months to get customers moved across to 4G.

Telstra CEO Vicki Brady said the delay was to allow people to check and upgrade their devices.

If customers have a device that can only use 3G, it won’t be able to connect to Telstra’s network after 31 August 2024. Further, if a mobile device doesn’t have voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology, even if it uses 4G data, it will not be able to make voice calls on the Telstra network after 31 August 2024.

Telstra Pushes Back 3G Shutdown

Telstra said not all VoLTE-enabled devices support emergency VoLTE calling, meaning they will not be able to make an emergency call to 000 once 3G closes.

Telstra has released an SMS device checker tool for customers to check if they will be impacted – to access the service SMS 3 to number 3498.

You can find out more from Telstra here, contact your local alarm distributors for assistance with 4G devices, or read more SEN news here.
