Optex Virtual Loop Released At SecTech Roadshow.

Optex virtual loop released – Something the SEN team liked the look of at SecTech was the Optex Virtual Loop OVS-02GT, which is a microwave FMCW detector designed for sites where ground loops can’t be installed.

The OVS-02GT detects the presence of a small or large stationary or moving vehicles within 8 metres of the sensor while ignoring human traffic. Best of all, this sensor is easy to install. Unlike ground loops, no civil works are required, and the weatherproof device is mounted 500 mm from the ground.

Operationally, the OVS-02GT connects to an automatic barrier, slide gate, swing gate and industrial door. All setup is done by smartphone app, which ships in default for barrier, slide and swing gates and can be modified for applications with regard to calibration and sensor status.

You can learn more about the Optex VL here or read more SEN news here.

New Security Distributor Launches In NZ – TSS Newly Appointed Paradox Distributor For NZ.

New Security Distributor Launches In NZ – TSS (Trade Security Supplies) launched recently, with ambitions to shake up the security sector as Paradox’s newly appointed distributor for New Zealand.

Inspired by recognising and remedying the challenges faced by trade customers, the New Zealand-owned business has a mission to focus on relationships, expert people and top-quality brands.

“We’ve heard loud and clear what customers are saying about suppliers acting like order takers and box movers with no personal touch, so we have set out with the intention to redefine the experience by putting our customers, and their needs, at the centre of everything we do,” said TSS managing director, Andrew Moss.

According to Moss, the TSS approach to service is anchored in having a narrower focus on core brands, allowing the team to devote more time and attention to understanding customers’ needs and providing them with optimal solutions.

“Our trade promise of exceptional service is unparalleled in this sector, our ‘learn and earn’ training camps will help teams to elevate knowledge without compromising on productivity, and we’ve even got a great incentive for customers joining TSS.”

TSS has opened new premises at 922 Great South Road, Penrose and the warehouse is fully stocked with Paradox products – you can find out more about TSS here or read more SEN news here.

See My Vape Defence At SecTech – My Vape Defense (MVD) is an Australian provider specialising in air quality, environment, and noise monitoring technology for schools, businesses, and public spaces and you can see the solution on the VSP stand at SecTech Roadshow in Melbourne tomorrow May 16, Sydney May 21 and Brisbane May 23 – pre-register here.

MVD’s real-time monitoring platform tracks a range of environmental threats, beyond typical air-monitoring capabilities. With secure protected data, users can be confident of receiving the most accurate and effective solution on the market, safeguarding health needs as well as personal information.

When an MVD sensor detects vape, THC or noise exceeding thresholds, the smart sensor can instantly send an email or text to alert managers that vaping is occurring in unwanted areas. Detectors can be grouped together individually or in zones across multiple sites. They are easily and conveniently managed via a simple app, with all data securely held in Australian-based servers and accessible via the cloud.

To allow for secure and cost-effective installation, Vape Defense sensors can be hard-wired with low cost and flexible serial RS-485 cable in a daisy-chain bus network topology. Alternatively, if it is not easy or possible to get a cable back to the gateway, the detectors can be provided with 24V DC power and use LoRaWAN protocol to wirelessly communicate long distances back to the gateway.

My Vape Defense’s smart detectors send data to an internet-connected gateway which is the bridge between the detector and the cloud. My Vape Defense detectors will alert if they go offline and cannot be hacked into, and can be used in a wide range of environments such as toilets, classrooms, hotel rooms, offices, bars, clubs, prison, airports, and shopping centres.

“This partnership represents a shared commitment to providing the best possible solutions to customers,” said VSP’s Zaki Wazir. “Don’t miss MVD on the VSP stand at SecTech – it’s a brilliant and capable solution.”

Permaconn Acquires Patriot Systems, Will Maintain Its Independence.

Permaconn Acquires Patriot Systems – Mission-critical signalling solutions provider Permaconn has announced the acquisition of Patriot Systems, an NZ-based world leader in alarm response management software solutions.

According to Andrew Pears, CEO of Sydney-based Permaconn, the Patriot Systems team will continue to operate independently, but with strong collaboration across sales and product innovation initiatives to continue the companies’ mission to deliver technology innovation to help protect people and property.

The companies share many of the same monitoring centre customers and have had longstanding success in ensuring their respective products integrate seamlessly to unlock efficiencies for monitoring centre ecosystems. Tecom Discovery Spotted At SecTech Roadshow – See Video.

Tecom Discovery Spotted At SecTech – Tecom TSX1000 Discovery, arguably the most anticipated release in access control of the past 10 years, was spotted on the DAS stand at SecTech Roadshow in Perth and Adelaide (don’t miss it at SecTech Sydney and Brisbane pre-register here).

The new TSX1000 controller hardware caused quite a stir, given installers, integrators, consultants and end users outside of NSW haven’t had a chance to see it before. DAS hadn’t formally announced Discovery was touring either, so it was quite a surprise to see it in pride of place on the WMS plinth.

This is tidy hardware, thoughtfully executed – the latest sample retains the early look but you can see the evolution. Supported by WMS Pro management software, Tecom Discovery will offer reduced install times, faster performance diagnoses, enhanced integrations.

Iimportantly for high-end Australian users, the system is being designed and manufactured in Melbourne Australia based on local market feedback by an Aritech team headed up by Dean Reilly.

Tecom Discovery Spotted At SecTech 2

TSX1000 has 4 relays, 16 inputs, no dip switches for new hardware, support for 4G/5G/Wi-Fi, 2nd NIC via USB, support for self-addressing devices, electronic LAN balancing, installers can connect existing Challenger input and relay expansion modules, and power is no longer 16V AC but 12-24V DC via 2.5A power supply.

Tecom Discovery Spotted At SecTech Roadshow

There’s also a web browser for all apps and config options, Ethernet P2P to all hardware, built-in LAN RS-485 converter, general purpose 10A relays for doors, LEDs that indicate status for all I/Os, conveniently located power for all devices located adjacent to inputs, and readers supported include Weigand, clock & data and OSDP.

According to Aaron Cargill – he’s the guy you propellor heads are going to want to talk to on the DAS stand at SecTech – these functionalities are just a starting point. Tecom Discovery has system unity at its heart making this a very different solution from anything that has come before it.

Be sure to see Tecom Discovery in your SecTech city – Adelaide is tomorrow, Tuesday May 14, Melbourne is this Thursday May 16, while Sydney opens on May 21 and Brisbane is May 23.

Pre-register here to see Tecom Discovery and save loads of time – seriously – registering manually at the desk is a serious PIA, according to people in Perth.

Face Fix Key Safe Comes AJAX Ready With Awesome Wireless Range.

Face Fix Key Safe – Something neat we saw at SecTech Perth was the Face Fix Key Safe from UK manufacturer Loxal.

Distributed locally by VAT, the team was running around the expo floor trying to find a location in which the key safe lost connection. Given the size of the expo space and the Farraday Shield the safe had wrapped the transmitter in, performance was impressive.

According to Loxal, its Face Fix Key Safe (FFKS)is the most secure key safe on the market and features a large drawer for storing keys and or access swipe cards, making it an ideal solution for secure on-site key management and access control.

Inside the lock box drawer, several keys and access cards can be stored including mortice lock keys. Keys are attached to the retractable wire lanyard, so the keys remain at the safe, not in someone’s pocket or removed accidentally from site.

Face Fix Key Safe Comes AJAX Ready

The FFKS, like all Loxal hardware, is compatible with Videofied Alarms – this creates a seamless access, security and keyholding response solution. This safe is well made, too. As lovers of bespoke well know, the Brits excel at custom manufacturing, especially metalwork.

The metal housing has angled facets making it highly resistant to prying attacks or impacts, while a robust sealed keypad makes the safe resistant to weather or attacks using fluids.

Face Fix Key Safes can be installed traditionally into solid substrates or by employing non-intrusive methods including through a door viewer and the S-trap. The S-trap has a special fitting that enables the safe to be installed securely to the hinge side of the doorway without the need for tools. Importantly the FFKS draws very little power so batteries last 2-4 years.

You can contact local distributor VAT here or read more SEN news here.

Scentre Group Bolstering Security Across 42 Shopping Centres.

Scentre Group Bolstering Security – Scentre Group will bolster security across its 42 Westfield shopping centres after a knife attack killed 6 and injured 8 at Westfield Bondi Junction.

Scentre Group’s chief executive Elliot Rusanow said new security measures were being rolled across its ANZ shopping centres and included additional security staff. Westfield Bondi Junction already had strategies in place to respond to such attacks, including staff and customers taking shelter in shuttered stores, and these strategies likely saved lives.

“Our decision to increase security across the portfolio and provide financial support to our business partners following the tragedy at Westfield Bondi Junction will result in an increase in operating expenses in 2024,” Rusanow said.

“We are pleased that the NSW Premier Chris Minns has announced a review into a whole raft of things. We welcome that conversation, with the view of how we avoid these acts of violence unprovoked on innocent people ever happening again.”

Scentre Group Bolstering Security

NSW Government announced a review of personal protective equipment for security officers in the days after the attack, which killed 6, including security officer, Fazaz Tahir, and wounded 8, including security officer, Muhammad Taha.

NSW Premier Chris Minns has ruled out allowing security officers with stun guns or firearms but said the NSW government would consider other measures. These might include batons or immobilising sprays. In an importantly development, security officers at Westfield are now wearing protective stab-proof vests and their calls for these vests to be more widely available.

Since the attack there have also been widespread calls from providers to ensure security officers are trained to handle attacks with edged weapons. It’s also likely that video analytics will be leveraged in some applications to provide additional warning for response teams using CCTV solutions that are already in place.

You can keep an eye out for more information about the PPE review for security officers here or read more SEN news here.
