Port Radar Gives 3-D Security

Port Radar Gives 3-D Security

SiteIQ is the industry’s leading automated wide-area surveillance solution, used to protect critical infrastructure sites including ports, airports, chemical plants, and other at-risk facilities. SiteIQ gives users a single, highly accurate 3-D display of all activity in a secured area based on combined analysis of video surveillance and other distributed sensors, such as RFID and radar.

The project is partially funded through grants from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), covering surveillance, access control, and other security enhancements. New Haven Terminal and Logistec worked closely with TSA and the U.S. Coast Guard to define parameters for the surveillance system and chose SiteIQ after a competitive review of solutions. Advanced Security Technologies, based in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags” />Stratford, Conn., is the systems integrator.

“Logistec is a major cargo operator at the Port of New Haven and our number one priority there is ensuring safety and security,” said Darrald Atwood, Director of Health and Safety at Logistec. “VistaScape offered an advanced solution proven at other major ports and one that addressed our security needs for the

long-term.”

The Port of New Haven handled over 10 million short tons of cargo in 2002 and is a gateway for a wide range of manufactured goods and commodities, including petroleum and related products.

“SiteIQ provided a platform that enabled Advanced Security to integrate the best available sensor technologies and tie them together into a seamless security solution,” said Tom Marino, President at Advanced Security Technologies.

“The single interface is intuitive, allowing users to quickly set up and automate rules so that authorities are alerted in real-time to the exact location of a potential problem.”

SiteIQ will provide surveillance coverage of Logistec’s maritime traffic area and landside warehouse facilities. Security personnel will use SiteIQ from a central command center with remote web-based access at guard stations.
