Qolsys IQ Panel 4 First Impressions Ease Of Commissioning, Installation, Great Functionality.
Qolsys IQ Panel 4 First Impressions – The latest generation of alarm and automation solutions continues to offer professional security installers plenty to please homeowners and SMEs – Quolsys IQ Panel 4, distributed locally by BGW Technologies, takes that to the next level.
Qolsys is one of a shrinking number of products in the alarms and automation space that still enjoys considerable investment, and given the speed technology is moving, this makes IQ Panel 4 a highly capable solution.
Something that occurred to me during a recent demo with BGW Technologies’ Steve Curmi was the way some alarm and automation solutions straddle the best of past and present – offering systems that deliver proven operational capabilities and highly evolved detectors, while leveraging the latest communications technologies.
New Features
The system’s hub integrates plenty of neat features in its own right, including an 8MP camera with 120-degree views, an impressive new touch screen that supports image display, as well as linked CCTV cameras, a glass break sensor, upgraded 4-watt speakers (and an optional woofer), a microphone allowing duplex audio and loads more.

The hub can support up to 128 wireless devices of various types – these include the sorts of quality security sensors security installers need for pro grade applications indoors and out. It’s also possible to include a local wireless keypad allowing users to control core functions of the system from a remote part of a property without needing to use a networked device.
IQ Panel 4 supports serious security sensors from DSC’s PowerG range, offering 2000 metres of external wireless range, frequency hopping and signal encryption, support for 8 repeaters, etc, and it can variously communicate via 4G LTE and Wi-Fi Dual-Path, RF 433 or PowerG 433, Z-Wave 700 Series and Bluetooth 4.2.
Functions
You manage programming, commissioning, the network side, as well as local user functions, through the hub’s touchscreen, which is powered by a 8 core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The Qolsys user interface has always been solid, and this latest version is no exception. A lot of thought has gone in to ensure technology not only enhances the user experience but assists the installer with comprehensive diagnostics and the simplicity of QR code device connection.
No account of IQ Panel 4 is complete without recognition of how much flexibility and remote (and local) functionality is delivered via the Alarm.com mobile app, which in its latest iteration is a more polished delivery mechanism for situational awareness than ever before.
