AXIS Releases Compact M5526-E PTZ Camera With 10x Zoom.
AXIS Releases Compact M5526-E PTZ Camera – Axis Communications has released the compact M5526-E PTZ camera featuring 4MP, 10x zoom, 360-degrees of pan, support for analytics with deep learning, along with audio and I/O connectivity for responding to alarm events.
Something you get a sense of early on when delving into the specifications of this camera is that designers took advantage of developments in processing and software to make this robust little PTZ clever from stem to stern.

The camera features a 1/3-inch progressive scan CMOS sensor with a maximum resolution of 2688 x 1512 pixels and a lens with a focal length of 4.7-47mm with a variable aperture of F1.6 to F3, giving a horizontal angle of view from 59.1 degrees to 6.5 degrees.
Axis M5526-E PTZ is a day/night camera with WDR of 120dB that delivers colour images in .20 lux wide open (F1.6), or monochrome in 0.01 lux at the same aperture. The camera has auto-focus, auto-iris and P-iris control and 12x digital zoom. There’s Axis Zipstream as well as H.264 and H.265 compression options, and VBR/ABR/MBR to manage bitrate.
Running the show is the Axis ARTPEC-8 SoC, with 1024MB of RAM and 8182MB of flash memory, as well as a deep learning processing unit.

Apps include AXIS Object Analytics, AXIS Video Motion Detection, active tampering alarm, audio detection and gatekeeper. Also supported are up to 10 scenarios, like line crossing, object in area, time in area, crossline counting and occupancy in area.
Metadata can be visualized with trajectories, colour-coded bounding boxes and tables, Polygon include/exclude areas and perspective configuration. There’s also ONVIF motion alarm event, while metadata attributes include humans and vehicles (bikes, cars, buses and trucks), license plates, vehicle colour, upper/lower clothing colour, confidence and body position.
Image settings include saturation, contrast, brightness, sharpness, white balance, day/night threshold, local contrast, tone mapping, exposure mode, exposure zones, compression, rotation of 0 and 180 degrees, text and image overlay, polygon privacy mask, mosaic privacy mask and chameleon privacy mask. Clever PTZ management functions include PTZ control queue, PTZ malfunctioning, PTZ movement, PTZ preset position reached, and PTZ ready.
Scene profiles include indoor, outdoor and forensic, while image processing options include Axis Zipstream, Forensic WDR, and Lightfinder 2.0. Audio features include automatic gain control, speaker pairing, spectrum visualizerb, audio streaming configurable duplex, 2-way (half duplex, full duplex), and audio input with a 10-band graphic equalizer.
There’s an input for an external unbalanced microphone, optional 5V microphone power, unbalanced line input and audio output through speaker pairing. Audio encoding options include 24bit LPCM, AAC-LC 8/16/32/44.1/48 kHz, G.711 PCM 8 kHz, G.726 ADPCM 8 kHz, and Opus 8/16/48 kHz.
Other features include 100 preset positions, limited guard tour (max 100), control queue, on-screen directional indicator, spot focus, noise reduction spatial filter (2D noise reduction), and temporal filter (3D noise reduction).

The camera has a swag of network protocols as well as open API for software integration – these include VAPIX, metadata and AXIS camera application platform (ACAP) with specifications available at axis.com/developer-community.
Device status monitoring options include above/below operating temperature, fan failure, IP address blocked/removed, live stream active, network lost, new IP address, PTZ power failure, system ready, and within operating temperature.
This camera is rated IP66 against water and dust and IK09 against impact and has an operating temperature range of -20 to 50C. It weighs 1kg, draws 4.2W in normal operation with a maximum draw of around 12W – you can power the camera via PoE or with a 24V DC power supply. Onboard recording is handled by microSD/microSDHC/microSDXC card and there’s support for AES-XTS-Plain64 256-bit encryption.
