Alice Springs central business district seeks design, installation and commissioning of a new CCTV solution, incorporating LED lighting.
The implementation of CBD lighting upgrades must be based on recommendations from the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Report and OPTED existing conditions report. Streetlights will also be upgraded to LED lights, and CCTV cameras with additional lights will be installed in Billy Goat Hill, Trevor Reid Park, Stott Tce Bridge, Leichhardt Tce, and Todd St.
The project includes 4 packages spread over 2 years and was designed by GHD Woodhead architects and will extend the network of pedestrian and cyclist wayfinding routes into the CBD from the heritage area with CCTV covering pedestrian linkages around key walking paths.
Member for Braitling Dale Wakefield said 70 local jobs would be supported by the project during the construction phase.
“This is an important economic rebound project that will create jobs and ensures the long-term growth and liveability of our town,” Wakefield said.
Of the $A20 million budget, $15 million has been allocated for CBD revitalisation projects, and $5 million for the Breaking the Cycle of Crime plan. The Alice Springs Town Council has also committed $2.2 million to support the project. The second phase of the revitalisation plan includes a Kwatja (Water) Play Space and a Car Parking Review.
