Expanding Qolsys IQ 4 Panel With External Curtain, Smoke, Internal Curtain Sensors.

Expanding Qolsys IQ 4 Panel – SEN’s editor installed a Qolsys IQ 4 panel supplied by BGW Technologies in 2023 and after living with the system for a couple of years, has decided to expand its capabilities.

The existing solution, which is managed by the highly capable Qolsys touchscreen interface and the Alarm.com app, has proved highly reliable, performing flawlessly over the period save for a couple of local network outs entirely unrelated to the security system’s internal operation.

Of note, this Qolsys IQ 4 system with its DSC sensors has generated precisely zero false alarms for the period and some of its key features continue to greatly please from an end user point of view.

These features include its ability to deactivate by geolocation – that reassuring notification bell as you pull up never gets tiring – as well as the holistic nature of its Alarm.com app home screen, which gives the surety of site-wide movement assessment at a glance.

The expansion we’re planning involves installing smoke sensors to 3 levels, along with an internal curtain sensor on the second floor landing and external curtain sensor outside – it’s the external curtain sensor that has the most work to do in this application.

The plan is that this sensor will cover movement at 2 vulnerable door entries, one external gate and one carport door and entry way, all the while ignoring a triffid-like bougainvillea adjacent to line of sight, and handling a north-north-west facing courtyard that bakes on summer afternoons.

Stand by for our Qolsys IQ 4 upgrade coming soon – you can contact BGW Technologies to find out more about Qolsys IQ 4 and DSC sensors here, find our original Qolsys IQ 4 review here, or read more SEN news here.

Hikvision PowerStack Stentofon Traka CRK Join SecTech NZ

SecTech NZ is a compact, affordable pop-up event – it’s about installers, integrators and technical end users getting their hands-on the very latest product releases. SecTech exhibitors win visitors’ attention by bringing their very latest gear on tour – that includes some cheeky pre-release stuff, too, making for plenty of excitement.

Running over 1 action-packed week, SecTech Roadshow New Zealand will open at the Ellerslie Event Centre in Auckland on June 10, motor down to Sky Stadium in Wellington for June 12, head to Te Pae in Christchurch, for a June 17 finale.

Organised by the publishers of SEN website and EDM, who also organise SecTech Roadshow and Security & Government Expo (SAGE) in Australia, SecTech NZ will be the first time Kiwi distributors and manufacturers have had an opportunity to exhibit at an independent event, with past roadshows typically organised by industry suppliers.

You can contact Monique on 61 2 9280 4425 or email monique@sen.news for more information and a proposal but given the numbers pencilled in and the interest around this event, don’t be surprised if SecTech NZ sells out in double quick time.

Best Product Security & Integrate Announced.

Best Product Security and Integrate Announced.

Best Product Security and Integrate – Best product at Security & Integrate this year according to show judges was the Comvision Visiotech VS-X2 body worn camera, with runner’s up including PowerStack and Ultimate Security.

Visiotech says the standout feature of the VS-X2 BWC is its mobile duress capability. In critical situations, workers can press an SOS button, triggering a duress alert that is sent directly to a control centre. This alert includes a live video stream and the camera’s GPS location, providing immediate situational awareness and enabling rapid response. This single-button activation allows workers to focus on the unfolding situation.

Meanwhile, runner up Ultimate Security has developed a service which deploys wheeled robots to handle patrols and alarm response on large sites. SEN got a run-through of this robot at the show – it looks to us like a Team 1st Technologies’ Autonomous Security Robot manufactured in the U.S.

Team 1st’s Autonomous Security Robots are fitted with cameras and sensors and use computer vision, machine learning, and artificial intelligence algorithms to detect potential threats. Ultimate Security has purchased a fleet of these robots and is supplying them to big clients.

What’s neat about the Ultimate Security service is that it’s opex not capex, so users are getting the very latest in AI-powered robotics without having to stump fairly significant up-front purchase costs. Something else that’s neat is while the robot can replace humans on patrol, it also supplements and enhances security operations, giving greater situational awareness to a local control room.

Runner up Powerstack is a manufacturer and solar-powered utility poles with solar cells integrated into poles rather than mounted outboard. Given the size of the array and the fact it’s located on all facets of PowerStack poles there’s plenty of juice to support CCTV cameras, lights, sensors, comms, chargers, network portals, radios, radio repeaters, controllers, charge backup batteries and way more.

Best Product Security and Integrate

One of PowerStack’s biggest successes in SEN’s opinion is in successfully building relationships with other manufacturers to expand the capabilities of its core technology.

SEN had its own thoughts about the best new products at the show – there were plenty of developments and pre-releases to be seen but we think the winner in terms of being brand new and more or less fully formed was the Bosch Solution 4000 alarm and access control panel with CCTV integration to come.

Other products we liked the look of included the new Tecom Discovery, Genetec Security Center SaaS, Inner Range’s IR Video, Gallagher’s Enhanced and High Sec C7000 variations, the Ultimate Security Robot mentioned earlier, and some of the AI-powered cameras from Hanwha and Hikvision.

Bosch Solution 6000 IP Upgrades and New Keypads

Bosch Solution 6000 IP Upgrades – Bosch Solution 6000 is one of the electronic security industry’s quiet achievers, building a serious following thanks to a solid feature set and ongoing upgrades that allow considerable flexibility of operation.

Recent upgrades expand reporting options when using the Bosch Solution 6000 IP version of the panel. According to Bosch Intrusion Systems product manager for EMEA & APR, Jay Vara, because there’s no dialler with 6000 IP, in the past installers haven’t been able to connect the panel to a monitoring station using the popular Permaconn alarm communicators.

“Now we have a STU interface (RS-232) which allows use of Permaconn with 6000 IP,” Vara says. “The STU connects panel and communicator, allowing direct connection to Permaconn control rooms. It’s very simple for them to connect the panel to one side of the STU and the Permaconn communicator to the other.”

Alongside the new STU, Bosch 2 new 3.5-inch colour graphical keypads also impress. There’s 1 with a 40-bit MiFare smart card reader built-in while the other has a 40-bit MiFare smart card reader and Wi-Fi.

Vara points out that the Bosch Solution 6000’s new wireless keypad, which delivers 2-way wireless on a smart RF bus, also supports MyAlarm for upgrade and download via the MyAlarm app.

“Because the keypad has Wi-Fi onboard you can use the MyAlarm app service with Wi-Fi upload and download,” he explains. “The new wireless keypads will also link to the MyAlarm iFob and if they are connected via 4G you get app-based control for arming and disarming and user ID as well.”

As a baseline, the Bosch Solution 6000 has up to 144 zones, and supports 16 access doors or readers and 990 users. There are wired and wire-free keypad options, with a choice of arming and disarming using an 8-digit PIN code, a wireless remote, smart card or token, biometric fingerprint, auto-arm function, or via MyAlarm app or MyAlarm iFob.
