Opticomm Supports ANPR Rollout In WA – Telecommunications provider Opticomm has supported the installation of an automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) camera at Parcel Property’s Indi estate in Yanchep, working with WA Police to extend surveillance coverage across Perth’s northern suburbs.
Optimcomm is a carrier grade comms provider which specialises in fibre and has a strong appetite for future technologies it can weave into its portfolio. The installation forms part of a broader WA Police program engaging property developers to expand the state’s ANPR network, which is used to capture vehicle movements and support policing operations.
Opticomm delivered the supporting fibre connectivity required to integrate the camera into the wider network and WA Police confirmed the system links into a network of more than 600 ANPR cameras across the state, generating around 23 million reads each week.
As part of this project, Sapio designed and delivered a custom solar-powered ANPR solution for Opticomm, ensuring reliable 24/7 operation — even through Perth’s winter months. The system includes smart Bluetooth solar monitoring and was delivered efficiently thanks to our senior technicians’ extensive experience in complex solar deployments.
Sapio supplied and installed a suitable pole and cage, installed a custom solar bracket, implemented the smart solar solution, and installed and integrated a specialist Axis ANPR camera connecting directly to the WA Police network.
The pole-mounted ANPR camera being used looks like an Axis Q1700-LE or AXIS-01782-001 2MP bullet to SEN’s eye.
Acting Inspector Blake Henry, state operations command, WA Police, said the additional site strengthens operational capability.
“If a vehicle of interest enters the area, the ANPR system will alert police who can assess the incident and allocate the appropriate response,” Henry said.
“It is a strong example of how developers and police can work together to support safer neighbourhoods. Every additional ANPR site strengthens the network across WA and helps police respond to calls for help from the community.”
The Indi estate installation was funded by Parcel Property, with the developer citing community safety as the primary driver.
“As the estate continues to grow and more residents move into the area, this technology will provide an additional layer of reassurance,” said Parcel Property general manager Jeremy Cordina.
“When we reviewed statistics showing ANPR technology’s effectiveness in improving safety and deterring crime, the decision was an easy one.”
Opticomm said the Yanchep deployment is the first in a series, with a further 4–5 ANPR sites expected to be delivered over the next 1–2 months, and additional locations planned as the program expands.
