Baxall Launches Vivid Dvrs And Ice Cameras

0

The Baxall Vivid range of DVRs takes full advantage of the new JPEG2000 compression technology to give better picture quality at lower storage rates. With most DVRs on the market there will normally be a trade off between picture quality and storage, but Baxall claims Vivid wins hands down on picture quality (images are sharper and less blurred), plus it can actually reduce drive sizes by 30%. There are three models (Vivid Lite, Vivid, Vivid+) each has 6, 10, 16 camera inputs and a range of HDD size options from 80GB to 1TB. Archive options include and internal CD or DVD writer alternatively, all models have a USB port on the front of the unit so a USB stick can be used to archive to. Baxall’s new ICE range, will shortly replace all Baxall’s existing cameras and will be seen for the very first time at IFSEC. The company’s extensive camera range will be rationalised and updated, with a new modern design, smaller size and superior picture quality. Product codes have also been adjusted to make ordering far simpler for customers. Baxall’s DestinyT-IP X-Stream range of products which supports ultra high quality MPEG4 video compression will be on display at IFSEC along with IP PC Controller ‘virtual matrix’ software, to demonstrate unlimited scalability and flexibility. Also being previewed at IFSEC is Baxall’s three-axis mini domes, which have been designed to be installer friendly, easily accessible and easily maintained.

Remote Access From Hid

HID has announced the company has begun shipping VertX CS, a new family of access controllers is specifically designed for direct connection to central station operating software by security dealers enabling them to offer incremental monitoring and management services to their customers. This new access control service offering via central station software creates an expanded market opportunity for security dealers because they can now supplement alarm and intrusion system services by adding managed access control. When used with central station automation software from HID partners Bold Technologies, DICE Corporation and GE MAS, VertX CS provides fully-featured access control monitoring, reporting, and management that combines physical access control with alarm systems that can also be managed and monitored remotely. “VertX CS creates a completely new class of access control solutions for security dealers that are optimized around the way security dealers do business today,” said Mark Scaparro, executive vice president of sales for HID. “Additionally, a security dealer can now offer their customers physical access control services alongside the monitoring of intrusion and detection services they already provide, all working on the same platform and operator console that the central station uses now. We see this as a strategic business opportunity for security dealers, because it is estimated that approximately 85 percent of alarm monitoring customers do not currently utilize the benefits of physical access control. Previously, security dealers had two basic options when adding physical access control capabilities to an existing alarm system. One option is to link access control readers through alarm panel connectors resulting in an access control system with limited functionality. A second option is to install an access control system separate from the alarm system without the benefit of connection to central station operating software which does not follow the security dealer model for their customers. Now, these previously disparate systems can become seamlessly integrated into one directly connected to the central station through Bold, DICE, and GE MAS automation software that fully supports the security dealer’s model of managed services. VertX CS provides a seamless operation because central station operators can now leverage the same monitoring system and screens for access control that they currently utilize for intrusion alarms. In addition, it takes full advantage of back office tools for access control management, service reporting, and billing history to offer a single point of monitoring and management for these additional services. HID’s VertX CS solves the installation and monitoring dilemma with its plug-and-play compatibility to the same central station automation software systems security dealers and their monitoring companies already use. An essential part of making this work was partnering with leading central station automation providers, Bold, DICE, and GE MAS, to make VertX CS access panels operate as a fully-functional access controllers that are managed and monitored by their central station automation systems . VertX CS utilizes industry-standard connections, and comes complete with on-board installation tools. It installs similarly to an alarm system, is as easy to configure as an intrusion system, and is compatible with industry-standard access control readers. VertX CS is available immediately through HID’s partners Bold Technologies and DICE Corporation . It will also be available through ADI in the near future.

We Will All Use Smart Prox

The U.S. Commerce Secretary, Carlos M. Gutierrez, recently approved the new standard for a smart card-based form of identification. As well as covering government employees, prox-based smart cards will be issued to all their employees as well as all contractors requiring access to federal facilities and systems. The U.S. government is the West’s single largest employer and the move gives smart card developers the global killer app they’ve sought for the best part of 10 years. It’s virtually certain that smart prox biometric IDs will infiltrate all aspects of official identification over the next few years. “Protecting federal facilities, systems and the employees who have access to them is of vital importance to this Administration,” said Gutierrez. “This new standard will enable federal agencies to issue more secure and reliable forms of identification to better protect federal assets against threats such as terrorist attacks. It also will help safeguard against other risks such as identity theft,” said Gutierrez. Last year the U.S. issued a Homeland Security Presidential Directive calling for a mandatory, government-wide personal identification standard. The directive specified that the secure and reliable forms of identification should be based on sound criteria for verifying the cardholder’s identity; be strongly resistant to identity fraud, tampering, counterfeiting and terrorist exploitation; use electronic methods of rapid authentication; and be issued only by providers whose reliability has been established by an official accreditation process. Computer security specialists at the Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) worked closely with other federal agencies—including the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), the Office of Science and Technology Policy, and the Departments of Defense, State, Justice and Homeland Security—as well as private industry to develop Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 201, Personal Identity Verification (PIV) of Federal Employees and Contractors. NIST received comments from more than 80 organizations and individuals. These comments were carefully considered and led to many changes in the final standard. The standard specifies the technical and operational requirements for the PIV system and card. The first part of the standard describes the minimum requirements needed to meet the control and security objectives of the Presidential directive, including the process to prove an individual’s identity. By October 2005, agencies must meet the requirements of the first part of the standard. The second section explains the many components and processes that will support a smart-card-based platform, including the PIV card and card and biometric readers. It also describes a means to collect, store and maintain information and documentation needed to authenticate and assure an individual’s identity. OMB will determine the timeline for agencies to comply with the second part of the standard. The standard provides graduated levels of security to give agencies flexibility in selecting the appropriate level of security for each application. Agencies will continue to have full flexibility in determining who is allowed to have access to their systems and facilities. The PIV card is the primary component of the system. About the size of a credit card, the PIV card will contain integrated circuit chips for storing electronic information, a personal identification number and biometric data, a printed photograph and two electronically stored fingerprints. The standard includes requirements to protect the privacy of PIV cardholders. OMB will provide privacy and implementation guidelines to federal agencies. NIST also is working to develop two key companion documents to FIPS 201. Interfaces for Personal Identity Verification (NIST Special Publication 800-73) will specify interface requirements for retrieving and using data from the PIV card. Biometric Data Specification for Personal Identity Verification (NIST Special Publication 800-76) will specify technical acquisition and formatting requirements for the biometric credentials of the PIV system.

The new combined Video and Intercom unit includes an Eazeo camera with motion detection and alarms, backlight compensation and digital viewing angle control combined with high quality 2-way voice communications in a simple and convenient solution. It is also fully weatherproof to IP44 and is highly vandal-proof. When a visitor presses the doorbell button on the Intercom unit, an alert is raised at the main monitor which automatically shows the visitor on the screen – either full screen or in a highlighted box on a quad or x8 screen display. A single button initiates 2-way voice communication. A still ‘snapshot’ is also automatically taken allowing users to quickly view images of the last 10 visitors. The unit can be flush or surface mounted and includes an Intercom Speak button plus 3 status lights. The Eazeo observation system can handle up to 4 or 8 colour or monochrome cameras and these can include be any mix of standard, dome or covert cameras or the new Outdoor Video Intercom units. The Intercom unit comes complete with an action box ready for remote door control making it easy to install complete video entry systems for doors or gates. As with other Eazeo cameras, the installer can select specific zones for motion detection to eliminate false alarms say from passing traffic or trees etc. The system can also be set for different motion detection/alarm profiles during the day and at night, and motion detection can trigger alarms if required. “The new Outdoor Video Intercom unit is ideal for shops such as jewellers, off-licenses, as well as schools, offices, homes and small factory units where visitors must be screened before entry,” said Malcolm Chadwick, Eazeo business manager for the Eazeo product line. “High value retailers such as jewellers and off-licenses increasingly require door entry control for security and protection as do schools and private houses for gate or the door entry control. By combining a high quality outdoor video camera and voice intercom in a rugged weatherproof housing as a part of the proven Eazeo CCTV system, we are providing a highly effective yet easy to install all-in-one solution,” he added. The Eazeo system allows motion detection and alarms to be set for selected zones to eliminate unwanted alarms due to passing traffic or trees etc. The DVR option also allows remote access to the DVR for remote viewing of video or alarms via dial-up or the Internet. The main monitor offers either time-lapse viewing and recording, or simultaneous viewing and recording of up to 8 cameras with a multiplexing option allowing instant at-a–glance monitoring of an entire site on a single screen. Slave monitors also allow viewing from other locations such as the till, the back office, reception etc. The Eazeo can be configured for a wide range of applications from a simple observation system to a complete CCTV security system with all the features of much more expensive component CCTV systems at lower cost. Ricoh VMSS Protects Hard Drive Losses

0

In environments where classified documents are copied, scanned or printed on a digital system, an image of that information remains on the system’s internal hard drive. Without permanently deleting these items, confidential information can potentially fall into the wrong hands — a security risk that businesses and government agencies want to avoid at all costs. Internal hard drives are necessary in Multifunction Products (MFPs) to carry out complicated functions such as network printing and scanning. Yet, these traditional hard drives retain latent data, posing a security risk as unauthorized parties can possibly recover confidential information. Built on a RAM (Random Access Memory) drive, the revolutionary VMSS solves this security dilemma by deleting this information once the system enters the “off” mode. Since volatile Synchronous Dynamic (SD) RAM is used in Ricoh’s VMSS, it provides an ideal solution for government, military and other office environments with document production and information security requirements. By simply shutting down the MFP, any and all information in the system’s memory vanishes forever. Currently available on the Ricoh Aficio 2035e and Aficio 2045e black and white MFPs, VMSS is a user-friendly security solution as it works seamlessly with all of the system’s robust copying and printing features. Additionally, the VMSS can save customers time and money by providing an MFP security solution that is easily implemented and does not require intensive management from a security officer.
