“GE Infrastructure is rapidly becoming the premier security provider and acquiring Edwards positions us as a leader in the $5 billion fire detection and life safety segment,” said Bill Woodburn, President and CEO of GE Infrastructure. “By combining Edwards’ technology and channel strength with the broader Security offering of GE, we can now offer an integrated facility management solution. We see significant revenue and cost synergies with this combination, and expect the acquisition to be accretive to GE’s 2005 earnings.” According to Ken Boyda, President & CEO of GE Infrastructure’s Security business, “We’re seeing a convergence of technologies in the security arena, and a strong fire & life safety business is key to presenting an integrated facility management solution. “Since fire detection systems are the only universally mandated security technology, there is significant opportunity for us to grow sales in complementary areas like access control, video surveillance and related services for commercial and large scale infrastructure projects.” The business will become a part of GE Infrastructure, Security’s Engineered Systems business.

Adt Launches Next-Gen Eas Technology

0

The Sensormatic SmartEAS product portfolio offers both enhanced inventory protection and vital intelligence on store operations to help optimise merchandising efficiency. Recent trials of ADT’s SmartEAS technology with a major retail customer showed projected savings in excess of €3.8 million within the first year. This anticipated a 30% reduction in shrinkage across the customer’s network of 2,000 stores and a saving of 165,000 hours in staff time that would have been previously spent dealing with alarm incidents. Neil Hunter, Retailer Director explained: “While cutting shrinkage losses remains the priority, more and more businesses are demanding additional information about how and why their shrinkage is occurring. Until now this hasn’t been available, but our new SmartEAS technology will help provide the vital intelligence that enables businesses to reduce shrinkage further.” The future of retail security is about turning reactive security approaches into proactive ones that help reduce shrinkage further and provide business intelligence that helps run store operations even better. ADT’s new SmartEAS technology comes with two primary applications: 1- Smart Alarm Management alerts staff of EAS alarm activity and can record all of the details of alarm events via digital closed circuit television (CCTV) , so that data can be used to identify exactly what happened, when, where, and who responded. Information captured by SmartEAS solutions can be downloaded at any time or e-mailed to any nominated party as an incident occurs. It can also provide remote diagnostics to ensure systems are fully operational and online. The speed, accuracy and detail of information means it will become an essential tool for senior management and loss prevention teams. 2- Smart People Counting allows retailers to set benchmarks for consistently high performance across their stores by gathering information on traffic patterns as people enter and leave their stores. This data can help store management optimise staffing, gauge responses to promotions and determine sales conversion rates.

Bosch Adds Covert Cameras To Eaezo

0

The new covert cameras look just like normal PIR or smoke detectors and use the same unobtrusive housings, yet they incorporate a fully featured Eazeo camera offering motion detection, backlight compensation and digital view angle control. Bosch say they are ideal for covert observation of customers or staff to detect and reduce shrinkage or theft in a wide range of premises such as shops, bars, offices where overt cameras are too obvious. Video from the coverts can be prevented from appearing on the main display screen along with the other cameras and only unlocked for viewing by authorised personnel as and when required. Video motion detection allows the covert cameras to be recorded only when motion is present reducing the amount of unwanted recording. They can also trigger alarms if required. A single Eazeo observation system can handle up to 4 or 8 colour or monochrome cameras and these can include any mix of normal, dome or covert cameras with indoor or outdoor housings, allowing the Eazeo to provide a complete security solution for video surveillance of schools, offices, homes, shops and small to medium sized businesses. All Eazeo cameras, except the coverts, also provide audio facilities and optional intercom and action boxes can be added to allow easy expansion for door entry control, help points etc. A new Eazeo Outdoor Video Intercom unit combines vandal-proof and IP44 weatherproof operation with a fully featured camera with motion detection built-in along with intercom facilities for 2-way voice communication and visitor snapshots allowing the last 10 visitors to be quickly viewed. A fully equipped Eazeo system can monitor up to 8 cameras of various types, provide intercom and door entry with a choice of VCR or digital video recording plus motion detection for selected zones and alarms, and remote observation via a network or the internet. The main monitor offers a choice of time-lapse viewing and recording, or simultaneous viewing and recording of up to 8 cameras using a multiplexing option for instant at-a–glance monitoring of an entire site on a single screen. Slave monitors also allow viewing from other locations such as the till, the back office, reception etc. Different programmes for alarm and motion detection can be stored for easy switching between day or night surveillance, and it can interface to a wide variety of detectors and alarms. The Eazeo can be easily configured for a wide range of applications from a simple observation system to a complete CCTV security system. The digital recording facility allows any part of a recording to be retrieved and viewed virtually instantly, with easy searching by date and time, or external events such as alarms. Recorded images or video clips can be downloaded to a PC for storage and viewing using the recorder’s built-in Compact Flash card slot. Instant event replay allows the users to see and verify exactly what happened before and after the event with both pre-and post-alarm images automatically recorded when an alarm is triggered.

Ir Security Management Software

0

The new software manages offline programmable locks, such as Schlage Computer-Managed (CM) locksets, to online systems including Schlage Value Integration Platform (VIP) and Wyreless open architecture locks. Controllers accommodate up to 16 readers, including PIN-enabled locks, magnetic stripe and proximity card readers, iButton readers, and biometric HandReaders and FingerKey readers. An easy-to-use GUI provides “drag and drop” assignment. “With the new IR Schlage security management system, end users have never had more flexibility to apply a tailored solution for each and every opening, whether online or offline, all managed by the same access control software,” emphasizes Marilyn Collins, marketing manager for IR Security & Safety ECS. “It provides users with a single point of contact for all security needs and offers a seamless expansion path.” The new security management system meets banking data center security standards. It views, acknowledges and secures all alarms, defines an unlimited number of alarm conditions, sends alarms to pre-defined workstations in order of priority, emails appropriate recipients and receives videos of alarms. The IR Schlage software supports both online and offline credentials and lets users design and edit badge layout. Visitor management can be fully integrated so that operators can assign access control privileges to authorized guests. It can even order the printing of appropriate guest badges. Using the new software in conjunction with video systems, users are provided convenient searchable criteria, easy distribution of video clips, and immediate retrieval of transaction or alarms and associated video clips. Users are able to generate, email and print pre-defined or customized reports on alarm or archive history, credential holders, database, guest passes and transaction history in any standard format. For security tour management, the system is extremely flexible, allowing an unlimited number of checkpoints with any card swipe or active contact to be a checkpoint. The new software also offers advanced offline and online capabilities as well. “It’s a terrific advantage to be able to connect both offline and online access systems under one platform,” explains Collins. “Lower security openings in an existing structure are best equipped with offline, battery-powered locksets as an appropriate access control solution while high security, perimeter, or heavy traffic openings are best equipped with online, hard-wired or wireless access control solutions. Biometric technology expands both online and offline security options dramatically. “And now, with the IR Schlage security management system, customers can get creative with solutions, mixing and matching such access control options without needing help from their systems administrators to train, manage or keep up to date with a series of access control management systems.” The new security management system capitalizes on the latest technology available from Schlage, including VIP and wireless solutions. Both online solutions offer end users substantially lower installation costs than other online options and provide optimal retrofit conditions. The VIP open architecture platform seamlessly connects the specially designed door lock to a panel interface board (PIB) that connects to the security management system panel. Users access the VIP lock with either magnetic stripe or HID proximity cards. Wireless systems use less hardware and install five to ten times faster. With Schlage wireless systems, it becomes extremely easy to retrofit electronic access control solutions in facilities and applications that have previously held back due to budget constraints or installation limitations. Importantly, the wireless system easily integrates into all existing access control systems and customers can continue to use their existing keys or ID credentials. In addition to managing the variety of offline and online products available from IR Security & Safety, the IR Schlage security management system also manages a variety of credentials ranging from hand geometry and finger scans, HID proximity card, magnetic stripe card, iButton, plus all the former with PIN number or PIN number only. “It is not uncommon for an application to call for different types of access credentials across a facility,” affirms Collins. “On a college campus, a student may use their hand geometry for access to the perimeter security points of their residence halls while using their ID card with magnetic stripe for access to their individual rooms. Meanwhile, the facilities management staff may prefer the use of an iButton credential because of its durability and ease of use.” The new IR Schlage security management system is available now through IR-certified access control dealers.
