Sarix Surevision Cameras

Sarix Surevision Cameras

SUREVISION is a set of smarts that are integral to Pelco by Schneider Electric’s Sarix cameras Surevision combines wide dynamic range, low light and anti-bloom capabilities in order to give users the best possible image in difficult lighting conditions. There are also built in analytics including directional motion, object removal and object counting.
According to Pelco, Sarix itself is “rooted in the goals of delivering advanced lowlight capabilities in megapixel…imaging, consistent application of colour science across the entire Sarix product line, and a flexible platform to adapt to the needs of additional processing power needed to provide analytics.”
In a sense then, Surevision represents a development of the open-ended firmware of the original Sarix camera which was optioned for the best possible balance of resolution, frame rate, low light performance, network compatibility and upgradeability, with as many possible useful surveillance functionalities shoe-horned in for good measure.
There are 4 cameras in the Sarix range including a 0.5 SVGA standard definition camera, a 1.3 megapixel high definition camera, a 2.1 megapixel extended platform camera and a 3.1 megapixel high definition camera. Each of these chipsets is available in a number of different form factors, including full body, indoor domes, vandal domes and environmental domes.

The range includes the Sarix ID series of indoor domes which incorporate auto back focus and one handed installation. The ID series also has interchangeable CS mount lenses, as well as an optional telephoto lens Pelco says is the industry’s longest.
Another unit of note is the Sarix IE series environmental domes. These are a network indoor/outdoor rugged fixed dome camera designed with industry-leading image quality and high performance processing power. Its sturdy metal design is vandal and tamper resistant and is designed for worry-free use in a wide range of environmental operating conditions.
You get 1.3 to 3.1 Megapixel Resolution (SVGA resolution available)
Up to 30ips at multiple resolutions, optional CS mount lenses, auto back focus, H.264 and MJPEG compression, Day/Night capability, sensitivity down to 0.03 lux , 2 video streams, a focus button with delay enabling a precision focus through the bubble. There’s also local storage (Mini SD) for alarm capture, bi-directional full-duplex audio and web viewing of to 16 cameras simultaneously.
The IX series is the 3.1 megapixel high definition camera with a 1/3-inch CMOS imager. It features low light sensitivity of 0.05 lux, dual codec for delivery of dual video streams (H.264 and MJPEG), maximum resolution of 2040 x 1536 and maximum frame rate of 30ips (at 1280 x 720). IX30 also features Open IP standards allowing connectivity to third party software as well as an application programming interface.
Other relevant features include PoE, mini-SD for local alarm event storage, auto back focus, web viewing of up to 16 cameras at a time, colour and day/night options and remote setup and administration. The camera is progressive scan, reducing jitter when compared to analogue alternatives, it has a purpose-built lens, 50dB signal-to-noise ratio and a wide dynamic range of 60dB.
Recently I got a look at a 1080p HD Sarix Surevision camera at the Pelco By Schneider Electric office in Sydney. I saw the camera in action the day after I reviewed a group of top HD – that group included the 2 best HD cameras of the moment – at another location. Having been impressed by Sarix’s low light performance in the past I was most interested in its ability to handle transitions from dark to light and strong backlight.
When compared with 2 or 3 of the best cameras of the past year or so, the Sarix camera’s daytime performance was very impressive. It shrugged off backlight. The Sarix was looking from an office into a dark balcony with vertical shading and then out into bright light from an elevated location.
It was doing extremely well at this with exceptionally good vision in the enclosed balcony and then excellent colour work and good sharpness out in full sun. The maximum depth of field was about 150-200 metres. If you were in the market for a quality 1080p HD fixed camera, you’d want to look at Sarix Surevision.
